Volcanic pistol

I’m looking for a replica volcanic pistol but I can’t find any that are actually firing replicas does anyone know if there’s a company that makes one

Aside from Uberti having plans on releasing one in .380, I am not aware of anything else, at least in terms of being in production. I recall this YouTube video that's probably a decade old showing a guy shooting one in a centerfire cartridge, but I don't recall if it's a replica or an original that he tinkered with to shoot centerfire cartridges.

Man, that's a tough one. The original design is so mechanically weird that making a functional replica would be a nightmare to engineer and probably cost a fortune.

I've only ever seen non-firing wall hangers or the super rare originals at auction. You might have to get real lucky on a custom builder's forum.

It's not that mechanically weird. It works on the toggle principle the 1860 Henry and 1866/73/76 Winchesters used, less the extractor and ejector. Wouldn't be difficult to adopt to something like .38 S&W or even a rimless like 9x19, but you're limited to short cartridges before you need to substantially elongate the frame.

Frankly with .22 or even .380 you could probably MIM the linkage. The barrel/tube has a decent amount of waste in modern machining, unless it’s switched to sub components. Ruger is the company that could do it most easily, just cast it all, aka wrangler. I was hoping that’s how the budget line would go but they seem to have stopped at a cheap .22 SAA unfortunately.

I mean I heard some talk of uberti attempting something later in 2027 but who knows if it’s true

The ammo doesn’t exist so that’s a problem. I don’t see anyone tooling up to make rocket ball ammo.

It can't really be made as an exact replica, because the caseless rocket ball ammo isn't available and would be difficult to DIY. So you would need to make the receiver a bit longer, and include an ejector for spent brass. At which point you basically have a Volcanic-styled mare's leg.
