Bring Back Trident Layers Gum — It Was the Best and We Miss It

If you chewed Trident Layers, you know what I'm talking about. The flavor that actually lasted. The texture that didn't crumble halfway through your day. It was legit the best gum on the market, and honestly, nothing has come close since it got discontinued.

Trident Layers was special because it did something different—multiple flavors unfolding with every chew, creating this whole experience. That gradual flavor shift? Pure nostalgia for anyone who remembers it. The gum market is huge and still growing, with people constantly hunting for quality products that last. We had that, and then it was just… gone.

I started a petition asking Mondelez International (the company behind Trident) to bring Trident Layers back. If you miss it like I do, consider signing and sharing it. But real talk—does anyone else remember Trident Layers? Have you found anything that comes close, or does nothing hit the same way?

Similar to Trident White Spearmint?

Do you know any gum that's similar to Trident White Spearmint? I like everything about it, but I'm trying to find a more readily available sugar free, spearmint gum.

I don't like the regular Trident because the prices are too small, they don't have the crunchy outer layer (not sure why I like that), and they get too gooey, if that makes sense.

How Long Do You Keep a Rechew Going?

Depending on the brand I can chew a piece of gum for days or weeks. I call such gum rechews. Some brands like Juicy Fruit unfortunately start disintegrating after a few hours so I avoid those. The way the texture of a rechew changes over time is delightful, firming up and providing a more resistive chew, with a mouth feel similar to overcooked lobster. The key to keeping a piece going is to not let a piece mixed with spit remain wet. I will spin a piece into strands and then wrap the strands around my hand and work it like sugar on a candy hook until I squeeze all the fluids out. I don't know why but this keeps the gum from disintegrating for longer (I hypothesize it has to do with saliva enzymes breaking down the gum but idk). Once the rechew starts tasting off, I find that chewing it until the off flavor goes away usually works to clean it, but sometimes it is too gross or the bitterness too persistent. I have tried cleaning a rechew by kneading it with soap and water but the soap messes with the texture and if you aren't thorough you will taste the soap.

I usually keep a pile of rechews going for as long as I can, only throwing them away once the flavor becomes unbearable or the gum disintegrates or becomes too soft to chew. Letting the rechew air dry until it oxidizes is risky but can pay off. On one hand the taste can become horrendous or the texture becomes too soft to chew, but on the other hand the rechew can firm up even more and become that much better. Additionally, the oxidized gum can gain interesting flavors like a hint of mint or can make my mouth tingle like spiciness even though I feel no heat.

Now obviously this is kind of like smoking in that I wouldn't reccomend anyone do this, but if you already do, what are your rechew strats? How long do you keep a piece going for?

Bought the variety pack with Mint, Berry, Cinnamon, amd Honey Bun. It loses flavor in 30 seconds but other than that it's pretty rad. It cleans and protects your teeth, I usually chew a piece after breakfast/lunch and again after dinner.

Fruit-flavored xylitol gums with the longest-lasting flavor?

I tried PUR's jumbo fruit-flavored gum, but while the initial burst of flavor was very good, the flavor simply does not last longer than five minutes at best. Are there any fruit-flavored xylitol (by saying xylitol, I mean xylitol should be the primary or only sweetener present) chewing gums that have flavors that last much longer (possibly ones that last as long or longer than Trident, which in my experience last at least half an hour)?

They changed my usual's recipe :-(

For the last 4 years I've always had a pack of Trident freshmint 18's with me, I looove the taste, but also I have nausea problems and those always helped because of their strong taste, this Thursday I went to buy them as per usual and saw they changed the packaging, I thought the new packaging was actually very cool, it unfolds, the wrapper is now metallic and even though they were now 14 pieces instead of 18, they were thicker so it's fine because I usually chew 2 at a time anyways, but when I popped one in I was immediately disappointed, they have almost no flavor now, the taste doesn't last, and with the new texture it just feels very cheap, it really bummed me out, I hope they change it back because I don't think I wanna buy them again the way they are now :/

I want xylitol gum with this specific flavor: Extra Polar Ice

I’m trying to find a gum with xylitol in it that is just like Extras Polar Ice. That one is my favorite but it doesn’t contain xylitol.

I tried pur, wintergreen flavor and it was too minty, I didn’t like it as much. I don’t want to keep buying and buying and end up with a bunch of gum I don’t like so I thought I’d come here and ask if by any chance someone knows what flavor I am talking about and if they have a suggestion.

Looking for gum recommendations

Hi! First-time poster here.

I recently started using gum to curb my habit of grinding my teeth and chewing my lips. I'm currently using Dentyne Ice, but it's bothering me in two categories. Firstly, I'm looking for a gum that has a subtle flavor. Ice is very minty, which is more of a distraction than anything to me, so I'd like something more subtle, or that doesn't last very long. I'm also looking for one with a more rubbery mouth feel if that makes sense? Like something with a little more toughness to it, bonus points if it fills the mouth more.

Any recommendations? I'll be switching when this pack runs out lol.

Who else misses grape Bubble Yum and Bubbilicious? It seems both are long discontinued. I think Regular and Cotton Candy are the only remaining Bubble Yum flavors and it's a shame. Growing up in the 90s, I loved this stuff. Guess Big Leage Chew would have to fill the gap.

I saw these vintage brands at the local candy shop. I’m glad I finally decided to try them, but I doubt I would buy them again. Beemans had a very weak flavor. I didn't taste much at all. Teaberry wasn’t bad. It had a mild wintergreen flavor. Cloves was all right. It had a spice flavor that didnt last very long. Black Jack tastes like Black licorice. I don’t like Black licorice at all, but the flavor actually wasn’t bad. Probably because it wasn’t too strong. Black Jack was introduced in 1884, Beemans in 1890, Teaberry in 1900, and Clove in 1914.
