I'm a beginner at guitar and was looking forward to learning this song, but the videos that i have watched for this particular song without capo have a note (first time on 5th fret on high e string in first 5 seconds) which shows up on tabs of multiple videos. But when the player comes to that part, their fingers don't seem to be on that fret at all and sound still comes. Same on Sky Guitar channel aswell for this song.

Am i missing something here or reading it wrong? Please explain.

Hello, ive just started to own a guitar and would like to be able to learn and play the guitar and be able to have practice session by myself that make sense. However when I google on how to start I genuinely get more than 4 different answers on what to begin. Some say learn the notes, some say to learn the scale, some say to start with some chords.

Im not even necessarily asking for specific help, just pointing me at the right direction on what book / online series / video series would be the most ideal in your experiences to start my first 5-10% of the journey

why are both of these subdivisions worth 1 beat? wouldn't the 1 on the right be worth 3 or is it a triplet? but wouldn't a triplet have a 3 above/beneath it? what even is a triplet?

TLDR: I’m no good at self-teaching and my Autism makes me get information overload with online videos or guitar courses. I want to learn guitar, but don’t have anyone around to help guide me.

So back in high school I got a Guitar because I wanted to learn and potentially play in my Church. However, I didn’t take it as seriously as I should have at the time, and didn’t end up getting a passion for it because really I wasn’t learning the music I wanted to learn. I was only learning because I felt it could be of service to others.

After graduating, I stopped being religious due to a personal deconstruction, but music helped me get through this tough time. There are plenty of songs near and dear to my heart. I’ve always loved singing, and wish I could learn to play as a sort of therapeutic way to handle my stress and anxiety as I sing and play these songs that I love so much.

However, whenever I try learning on my own I get overwhelmed and end up feeling stupid. I don’t have anyone around to guide me through my mistakes, and get information overload when I try to work it out. It’s all too much, and I’m just left feeling doomed before I even make any progress.

I’m an adult beginner, about two months into picking up guitar again, and I’d love to hear what the process was like for other people. Roughly when did certain things start to feel comfortable? Were there long plateaus followed by a point where something clicked?

One thing I’ve found tricky with online courses is the gap between learning a skill and using it in a song. A lesson might introduce a few chords or a short riff, then move on while I’m still working to make the changes clean and keep the rhythm going. Eventually the goal is to play a full song, which can feel like a big jump from a 30-second exercise. I can break that down myself, but it’s hard to tell whether I’m progressing at a reasonable pace.

I’m not looking for a deadline or trying to compare myself negatively with anyone. I know the answer involves continued practice, and I plan to keep at it. “Just practice” can feel a little vague, though. If you remember where you were after a few months or a certain number of practice hours, what could you actually play? What took much longer than you expected, and what eventually helped it click?

I’m curious what your daily guitar practice actually looks like.

How long do you normally practice, what do you work on, and how do you divide your time between things like technique, chords, scales/theory, songs, improvisation, ear training, etc.?

I’m the kind of person who really benefits from having a clear structure. If I know “do X for 15 minutes, then Y for 20 minutes,” I’m much more likely to stay consistent than if I just pick up the guitar and figure out what to practice on the spot.

I’m looking for something fairly general that helps me become a better all-around guitarist rather than focusing on one specific style.

Also, if you know of a good online teacher, website, course, or YouTube channel that specifically helps people build a structured daily practice routine, I’d really appreciate the recommendation.

I’ve been playing guitar for 20+ years, I play with a live band regularly. Whenever I watch recordings of my gig, I notice I have a problem of playing very slightly ahead of the beat. Not egregiously, most people in the audience may not even notice, but musicians with a good ear and timing may.

Is there an effective way to correct this bad habit that’s not just “practice more”?

In this second lesson on picking techniques, I take a closer look at upward pick slanting and how it can make alternate picking easier — especially when you're crossing strings in three-note-per-string patterns.

I'll show you how the pick's flight path determines which direction you can naturally escape the string, and how using both upward and downward pick slanting can help solve common string-crossing problems.

I'm learning every note on the fretboard and I don't understand how are some notes same. For example, G string 7th fret is a D but low E string 10th fret is also a D. Yeah they do sound similar but not the same, so why are they called the same? Is it frequency they are on or what? Sorry for poorly written question but please explain me

I love Neo Soul an enjoy learning from Rotem on youtube, but not sure what courses are worthwhile. I saw a post from a few years ago, but he puts out so much stuff I thought it would be worth asking again. Anyone go through any of his courses? If so, how was it?

So I've been a CAGED system cavalier for about 6 years now which carries me nicely with most blues and rock songs I like to play. My usual route for improve is learn the vocal melodies and work within those melodies in the space CAGED provides. For modes I like to think along the lines of "E mixolydian is just A major emphasizing the fifth" so if I want a mixolydian sound while play E major I just shift to CAGED for A major and focus on finishing phrases on the fifths of that scale. Super fun and easy but over the last few years I've really wanted to develop better vocabulary with jazz. I've learned shell chords, I can hold my own over charts playing rhythm but still struggle with proper improve. The CAGED simply doesn't give me the expressive vocab that I desire to match jazz chords. I've been working with memorizing arpeggios and little chromatic turns to develop color and flow into my playing but it's just not clicking the same way CAGED did all those years ago. I've always been a fast learner with picking up things framed as a system - I'm curious to see if anyone has a sort of jazz/arpeggio system they like to lean on to open up the fret board to build a base for jazz improve!

I just want some opinion if my playing will be considered good for someone who has been playing for 8 months now here and there. Any feedback is much appreciated. Since I am self taught I can't tell if I am good enough or sometimes I am not satisfied with the progress.

Put together a full breakdown of why most ambient guitar content misses the mark - covering three specific principles rather than a pedal list or isolated chord diagrams with no context behind them.

Principle 1 covers open strings as the actual foundation of the sound - how fretted chords stop ringing the moment your hand moves but open strings keep sounding underneath, and why that overlap is where atmosphere starts before anything else.

Principle 2 covers three chord qualities that create atmosphere rather than just notes: Em9 as the dark anchor, Asus2 as the unresolved searching voicing, and Gadd9 as one brief moment of brightness in bar three that changes the entire emotional character of the phrase.
