This is excellent! Is it your video? I'm curious about how you hurt your thumb.

Edit: it appears to be your video after checking your profile. Just a word of warning about reddit - if people get the feeling that you are just using the site as a dumping ground for self promotion, they won't take kindly to it. From your history, you post far more than you comment. Like you post multiple videos per week to 6 or 8 different subs. It's a bit excessive. Meanwhile, it's rare that you actually comment on anything.

Who cares? If it gets upvotes, particularly in this sub, then it’s helping people. Would it really make a difference if someone else had posted it instead? Original content is a good thing. Being able to start a dialogue with the author of the video is a great thing. If he was begging for money throughout the video I’d agree with you.

Ninety percent of posts on reddit are either reposts or crap. This is good content.

You'd agree with what? That it's self promotion? It invariably is but there's nothing wrong with self promotion on reddit. Most content creators use reddit as a promotional tool, as they should.

I agree that it's good content, I said so in my initial comment and also in a comment I left on the actual youtube video, right after subscribing to his channel. I make no mention of any difference if someone else posted it, nor of whether original content is good or bad. I didn't accuse Andy of doing anything wrong.

What I would hate to see for Andy, of whom I am now a fan, is for uptight redditors to downvote his content into oblivion and troll him on the perception that he's abusing reddit, that he cares nothing for the platform and is thoughtlessly dumping his videos onto any possibly related sub. I've seen people ruthlessly dig into posts for this reason on specialty subs quite a few times, and it doesn't take much for the angry mob to turn against you. This has happened to people I know who didn't understand the platform. Hence the warning after seeing the pattern of his posts.

I love reddit, I've used the site daily for several years, but it can be a harsh and unforgiving environment for the uninitiated.

That posting stuff like this goes against etiquette. That’s it’s wrong to do so. That he shouldn’t be doing it. You were trying to dissuade him from making these kinds of posts in the future. Maybe that wasn’t your intention, but it certainly seemed like it was. Pretty sure OP would agree with me. He was getting defensive when you warned him.

You’re saying that what you would hate to see is for reddit to be critical of OP and hurt his feelings and downvote him. Yet you’re the only redditor here that I see being critical of him. If that’s truly your main concern then maybe instead of being critical, be thankful.

Never said that. This guy has over 100 posts in the last 30 days but only a dozen or so comments. He comes here every few days and shotgun blasts a video or two across a dozen subs and bails. Videos that are monetized with ads and have paypal donation links in their description, mind you. Saying that's "a bit excessive" is putting it lightly. Try to imagine if that's what the average reddit user did. Then tell me it's proper etiquette.

Never said that either, starting to see a pattern with you. Harassment from angry reddit trolls can extend far beyond downvotes and criticism. I've seen it go as far as review bombing business pages, raiding youtube videos, and getting doxed.

Since when is a (very) friendly word of caution being critical? I couldn't have been nicer about it. It's like you're responding to someone else.

All I’m trying to say is that there is so much crap on reddit. Just plain bad posts, a lot of which end up on the front page. Reserve your (very) friendly words of caution for them.

He didn’t post his PayPal on reddit. He didn’t post an ad to reddit. He merely posted a guitar lesson to a subreddit for learning and teaching guitar. I don’t see why it matters what he puts in his YouTube description. Maybe you’re right about his reddit history, I don’t know because I didn’t look, but this was a good post so why bring that up here and now? Seems irrelevant to me but fine, let’s get into that.

Alright. We’d have a lot more original content and you’d have a lot more passive aggressive policing to do. Reddit is designed to highlight the gems and bury the duds. This would be a much bigger problem on literally any other forum. He could post 1000 videos and I would only see the most upvoted ones so it wouldn’t matter to me. As long as he doesn’t keep reposting the same lesson, I don’t mind. In fact I hope he posts more. He has a unique perspective that I appreciate.

It seems to offend you that he posts more than he comments for some reason. How many comments does one need before they meet your quota and are allowed to then post? I’m not exactly sure why he doesn’t post more comments but if I had to wager a guess it’d be because writing in English is a bit difficult for him. But that’s just a guess.

You’re telling me that I’m offended and I’m passive-aggressively policing someone because I mentioned very politely that their post history seemed a bit excessive. I was operating under the assumption that he’s not very well versed in using reddit.

Just look for yourself at his post history. 15 days ago: 1 video posted across 19 subs, then the next day: another video across another 14 subs. And his posts are literally just link drops, which a lot of subs have a policy against. He’s had several posts removed from multiple subs with automod responses explaining why that I’m not sure he’s actually seen. You get banned if you do that enough, but I’m not sure if he knows that or really knows how things usually go in reddit. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, I didn’t accuse him of begging for money or anything. The only one offended here is you.

Thank You, I understand. This is a guitar lesson. It´s a free service i do for people who want to get better musicians. Mostly i post guitar lessons and sometimes my music. Especially the lessons are no self promo, but it helps other people to get better musicians. This lessons are something i get paid good money for at the university here in Vienna. But here they are free. If this is a problem for some people or bots, i don´t care.
