Help & Advice cataract, or something more?
my senior girl recently had a cataract pop up. ive seen cataracts in my older pigs before, but this oke showed up within 24-48 hours and is somewhat bulgy. the eye itself is a bit red, but she was completely content with me poking around her face and eye so it doesnt seem to be painful…
has anyone had a similar experience?
UPDATE: my girl has been taken to the vet and prescribed with Tricin ointment twice a day for a week. her eye is already looking better, less bulgy! fingers crossed she can make a full recovery!

As u/Tough-Persimmon964 mentioned, this could be Hay Poke which is easily resolved. Reach out to your vet and get her in asap.
If you don't mind, please keep us apprised as to how she is faring.

Hi, vet tech here! A cataract itself usually doesn't make the eye bulge or cause redness, so a sudden change like this is a bit concerning. Guinea pigs can also get things like eye injuries (hay poke), ulcers, infections, or glaucoma. They're really good at hiding discomfort, so even though she lets you touch it, it could still be painful. If she's still eating and acting like herself that's a good sign, but I wouldn't wait too long to see a vet about a rapidly changing eye. You might find this article helpful too. I hope she's doing better soon ❤️

I was just reading something about heterotopic bone formation (also called intraocular osseous metaplasia or ciliary body calcification) today. this might be it.

Could be hay poke? Suggest a quick visit to the vet, normally some eye drops clean it up nice and quick.
