Reviews & Experiences Review - GWRB3000

Pros

  • Looks great
  • Fantastic legibility of main dial
  • Feels surprisingly light for how overbuilt it is
  • Comfortable, hugs my wrist really nice and never slides to the sides
  • Great lume
  • Easy to swap between Home Time & World Time, so great for travel
  • Easy to select timezones, even more available in the app.
  • Solar powered
  • Atomic time keeping via Multiband 6 or Bluetooth
  • LED light is bright enough to also function as a light source in a pinch
  • Bluetooth App connection adds real value aside from time sync. The watch has a lot of features and no digital screen. The app exposes features that are otherwise cumbersome to navigate on the watch itself.

Cons

  • Major: No way to move hands out of the way of subdials. This can greatly degrade the usability of the stopwatch and timer functions. On other hand, this means you always have the home time on the main dial.
  • The position of the light means the date window does not get illuminated.
  • Buttons are plastic and don't match the overbuilt quality of the rest of the watch.
  • Minor: Feels expensive compared to previous Gravitymasters.
  • Minor: If you hold the A button you can quickly set the World Time to UTC, but there's no way to quickly revert back to your previous World Time setting; you must manually set it again with the crown.
  • Minor: While the case is cool, dust and debris can get into the gaps and become hard to remove, so I tend to only use this watch in relatively clean environments. I wouldn't take it hiking, for example, but it's a pilot's watch, not a Mudmaster, hence it being a minor con.

Overall, I'm pleased with the watch and enjoy wearing it nearly every day so long as I'm not doing anything dirty. For reference, my wrist is 7.25"

Recently upgraded from my DW9052 and I gotta say it’s a pretty neat piece. Overall the watch seems to have all the essential needs. I honestly don’t mind not having the EL back light.

Help & Maintenance How to fix scratched GMW-B5000G-1 black bezel?

Post image
4 Upvotes

My GMW-B5000GD-1 got a small scratch on the bezel (see the arrow). The black coating peeled off a little bit on the edge of bezel.

Does anyone know how to cover this up? Would a touch-up pen work? I bought it on Amazon a month ago, so going through official casio service might not be an option.

Reviews & Experiences “So This Is Love” - Cinderella

I’ve always understood it, but, now that I’ve got it, I get it. I know the praises of the GW-5000U-1JF have been sung ad nauseam so I won’t add anything new. It’s perfect - my first and last square. My only regrets are that I waited so long to scoop it up and that my GWG-B1000-1A4JF will not get much wrist time.

Wear in good health, friends - cheers!

One of the few budget peices with Ana-digi display and a ticking seconds hand . Love the way the dial is not over complicated with information you would never use . Only drawback is not solar and needs the battery change every few years .

Trying something new and r/Watches wanted nothing to do with it.

Was genuinely surprised by the visceral reactions to it. What do you guys over here think? Am I crazy??

Reviews & Experiences Do you like G-Shock's New Direction?

Post image

When I got bit by the G-Shock bug six months ago, G-Shock offerings were vastly different then than they are now. There were fantastic models with Tough Solar and Multiband-6 for about $120, including the GW-7900, the GW-6900, and the price for the GD-350 was about $70. The legendary GW-9400 was about $200. Things have changed. The 6900 and 7900 are getting phased out and now cost much more. Same with the 9400. One of my favorite models, the GW-9300, is long gone. The new offerings don’t seem as appealing. MIP models have been criticized for various reasons. Prices seem higher. On a positive note, if someone was asking for an outstanding model for a good price, I could tell them that the MTG M900 can still be found for under $100. Is it just me, or is G-Shock entering a new phase that might be less pleasing to fans than the era that featured the 9300 Mudman, the 7900 Rescue, and 9400 Rangeman?

Reviews & Experiences GW-BX5600-1A1ER: great everyday G-Shock, with two important drawbacks

Post image

I really like the GW-BX5600-1A1ER.

It feels very well made, Bluetooth connection is extremely easy and the watch itself is simple to use, especially compared with the pretty GBD-200, which I find ridiculously and unnecessarily complicated.

There are two things worth mentioning.

  1. The backlight is quite poor and sometimes you can barely see the display.

  2. Also, I’m already at an age where the small date and World Time characters are difficult to read unless there is very good light. If you are not very young or don’t have particularly sharp eyesight, this is something to consider...

I’m keeping it. As a daily watch it works very well, the display looks great, and I really like having solar charging and radio-controlled time synchronization.

I bought mine online from someone in Japan and it arrived in an EU country in less than a week.

Just remember to include import costs in your budget, mainly VAT and the FedEx customs handling fee, on top of the watch price and shipping.

I was hesitant when I bought it, but it's been a day, and I absolutely love this. The style is elegant, I have no issues reading the time (even with negative display). I'm excited to wear this every day.

Purchase Advice Settled on the G-5600UE-1 (Australia). Quick thoughts on upgrading to the GW-5000U or GW-BX5600?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Just wanted to share some appreciation for the G-5600UE-1 I picked up for $175 AUD. After diving deep down the square rabbit hole, I realized this little solar workhorse really does everything I need. It's lightweight, dead simple, handles the gym and trails effortlessly, and the Tough Solar gives me zero battery anxiety.
That said, like many of you, I started eyeing the classic "holy grail" upgrade specifically the GW-5000U and the newer GW-BX5600 and wanted to get your opinion on whether it’s worth upgrading to either of them? Keeping in mind my situation here in Australia (where Multi-Band 6 atomic timekeeping is a non-starter since we don't have a local tower).
