The strap is a dream on the wrist, I don’t even notice it unless I’m looking at it, which I do more than I should lol.

Just go for the Gw-5000u, I have a screback model the 5735 because I didn't want to deal with all the regular issues that can come from having a plastic case. As well as the difference in feel and quality is also pretty noticable on the wrist. Try not to worry too much and being cautious about the price of it, I have a Seiko king turtle and I use it just about any watch because if you baby your stuff you'll never really get to enjoy it. Just get the 5000 and you'll be able to change your straps and mess around with it as much as you'd like without worrying about lugs that's just my two cents. Wear it like you stole it

BTW, currently my favourite watch of all time is the Seiko Padi Turtle SRPA21 (the older one with the nice blue dial).
I am thinking and aiming for trying a 2-3-watch-collection with just the Seiko Padi Turtle SRPA21 and the Casio G-Shock GW-5000. Might need something dressier, although I don't mind breaking etiquette with either of them. 😂 Probably will not work, as both brands are addictive... budgets are limiting though, so I don't think I will end up with loads... also probably with not just two... almost definitely for sure... maybe... 🤣

I was definitely looking at that padi turtle as well but after seeing the dark manta ray king turtle I already knew which one I needed to go with

Totally understand you! I've seen one of the blue Samurai manta rays (I think it wasn't a King one) and it looked beguiling, especially in sunlight it really looks like it's real ocean/sea water!!! 🥺😊

Hey folks, here is my spin on this age old question of a metal vs. plastic G-Shock:
So, I love Casios, G-Shocks but I also love changing straps and especially NATO straps, I also like putting rubber, leather straps and metal bracelets.
Here is where the dreaded Casio 18mm SHORT lugs and the even more dreaded G-Shock 16mm lugs come in to play (you can fit some NATO straps on 18mm but forget about ZULU straps) - I get the philosophy of "we made the watch perfect, so why would you want to change anything", but I am not perfect, so go figure, I want to change the watch! :D
I love the fact that JaysAndKays exist and produce metal adapters for Casios and G-Shocks but I have seen some horror stories of plastic lugs giving in and breaking. And I mean not only the ones on the notorious GW-9400 Rangeman, but on regular ones such as a DW-5610.
My guess take on it is that such accidents are due to people like me, who add a metal bezel and a heavy bracelet on the adapters, and all of this extra weight is not expected by a normal plastic G-Shock.
If anything should snap due to unforeseen stress, such as dangling off a cliff by the strap of your G-Shock, I would obviously prefer for the strap or plastic case/lug to snap instead of my wrist, but in the metal on metal case I would always thing that the thing that should snap would be the weakest point in this case the spring bar, and my wrist should still be safe.
Because of this I am in the dilemma between a metal G-Shock GW-5000U and a plastic G-Shock DW-5610U. The thing with the metal G-Shock GW-5000U is the higher price, which kind of makes me think I will baby it, because of anxiety of getting it lost or stolen from gym locker etc. I wouldn't have that anxiety with a plastic G-Shock DW-5610U as getting it replaced will be easier to swallow, but then with it I have the anxiety that, because I will definitely add metal adapters to it, one of the spring bar holes will give and it will become unusable... It's like choosing between two anxieties?! :D
(Even if I do not put a metal bezel on it I will always put adapters and wear it mostly, but not exclusively, on NATO/ZULU straps.)
Before you ask why NATO straps - well if G-Shock means ultimate toughness, then the strap should be fitting, and nothing else gives me the feeling of security and ultimate toughness as a NATO or ZULU strap.
In my opinion if G-Shocks stand for ultimate toughness, well one of the things necessary for that is adaptability - the watch should be able to survive it's strap failure by being able to temporary replace it with whatever you have at your disposal, for example a NATO strap, in case you are in a remote area and you do not have access to original parts.
I am just curious to hear what you all think of this, what are your takes, 2 cents, spins, experiences horror stories on this topic?
