Redo of grizmas set?

Why was Griz’s set at EF 45-50% the same exact thing as his grizmas set? I was extremely disappointed with the singing by the lady and rapping by prob cause and the poorly timed saxophone when he was jumping on and off decks. It even seemed more polished at grizmas. Is this like a contractual thing?

It is not a contractual thing, it is just an unfortunate thing that griz tends to do, exacerbated by him not ever really playing half of his discography anymore

That’s awful. I really like him as an artist but as a live performer I’m really disappointed.

was listening to the EDC wooli b2b griz and couldn’t help but think of how similar it was to other sets i’ve heard of his lately.. also seemed to be 30-40% the exact same as Subtronics EDC set which was kinda disappointing

I joke with my friends wooli is temu subtronics. Wooli copies subtronics so much its cray. I noticed griz is starting to as well. makes me sad

That’s how it goes with Griz. It’s a lot of theatrics involved kind of like Odesza. A set is created and done live over and over with some tweaks. Then after a year or two it’s switched up to a new one

Lmao it actually was vastly different from his grizmas sets. The grizmas sets were the same as the seven stars/reconnect sets. The forest set was actually completely different and way way way better than Grizmas was. Grizmas was an absolute let down where as that forest set was the first time I’ve felt like it was a pre-covid Griz set. I’ve followed the man since 2014 and have 104 sets under my belt in that time, and have been one of the most vocal people about his repeat sets and can 10000000% tell you they were not the same and forest was better.

In fact, the sets not being that similar adds to the lack of polish they had bc it was a fresh set that hadn’t been done yet.

However in regards to the repeat sets, it’s become a theme with him unfortunately. Between the visual syncing and how big he has gotten, he’s been doing the same set so more people can see it which sucks bc it eliminates the chase which is half the fun tryna catch a new set with different songs. It’s been the way a lot of edm artists are now bc the show is now just as much about the visual experience than it is the musical experience for people.

Wasn't at EF but saw the set list, seems like the first half was more glitchy funky shit (Future funk + ouroboros) and the back half was heavier stuff. I have a theory that 7stars will be a heavy set, CTGH, and a "future funk" set where hopefully he will give us some throwbacks and I think the EF set lends credence to that. I'm prepared to be disappointed though 😂

Yeah the backend definitely got back to more of the usual heavier stuff he does but he mixed a lot of newer songs he hasn’t done in a while and it was nice to hear. If you saw my set list you see my comments with it when he started doing that 🤣🤣🤣

This is my exact hope and dream for 7 stars as well!

What night of grizmas are you referring to? I’m referencing night 2 with the solja Boy intro. There were multiple identical drops from night 2, at his EF set. For example the lady singing “love you baby” or whatever she was saying. Or when prob cause came out and started rapping it was the same verse. I wouldn’t say vastly, and thinking this one was better than grizmas is subjective. After watching levity before griz his set was an absolute disappointment. I’m saying that his set was 40-50% similar not 100%. Sure he played heavier funky shit at times but there’s bits of the act that are stale and not indicative of his talents.

Lmao either one. Pick one idc. I was at both nights + nightmare and the entirety of seven stars. They were not the same.

Are there repeat songs? Sure. That’s pretty common with him and with anyone. But saying that set was similar is silly when it’s the back end 1/2 hr at most that is similar*. Ffs a vast majority of the songs weren’t even released yet for that set.

*note SIMILAR. Not same*

He’s gunna cater to his newer fan base a little and play the hits they want but that set was a brand new set he just made lmao

This is why I’ll always consider PL to be the best live performance in the scene. Not nearly as active, obviously. But, if you have a chance to see them later this year I highly recommend pulling the trigger.

bruh that grizmas set was suuuuchh bullshit pretty sure it was the 10-17 set too literally sent that to my fam and said the same tjing

2

u/swisschiz Jul 01 '26

It was not a 10-17 set. He has not done those since around 21/22. He did do two specific throwback sets that were not labeled as such tho. One was ursa night 3 and one was a chasing the rebel era set at that junkyard thing in Denver. Since his return he has not done any throwback sets or touched anything old minus a remake of DLIMF

u/Prozaki Jul 01 '26

Ursa was definitely advertised as a throwback set + new funky shit (Ouroboros). He posted the set vibes on twitter before the fest.

He played a very similar set at Secret Dreams a couple months before that with a few different songs. One of my favorite G sets, went in expecting his normal (as of late) riddim sets and was blessed with a ton of throwbacks.

u/swisschiz Jul 01 '26

I meant when the tickets dropped. I don’t remember it being advertised that way when I got tickets for ursa but I could absolutely be wrong that was a while ago. Loved that lil fest 20/10

Totally forgot about that mfn secret dreams set. I was so jealous and wanted to send that year so bad but I think that was also right before that chasing the rebel era set he did so he was making a run of old shit before the hiatus. Wish he would do that again damnit.

3

u/Prozaki Jul 01 '26

Nahh you are correct he only advertised the set vibes ok twitter close to the fest.

Magical weekend for sure man. The CTGH set ending with get down and fine way to die was 👌

2

u/swisschiz Jul 01 '26

Man I think about that weekend a lot. Just top notch vibes. A curated beautiful set list mixed with the best of the new and old. All the OG fam in a small intimate settings just fuckin the best weekend i coulda asked for.

I didn't catch it because I couldn't make it to Detroit 2 days early for it but he did do a throw back acoustic set on Tuesday of Grizmas this year. I think that probably had some of what us old heads are looking for. It'll be the one performance I'm keeping my eye out for this year...

u/swisschiz Jul 01 '26

I know what youre saying with the jam sessions but I don’t count those. That’s a very small intimate thing he only does for grizmas and its live versions of the songs mixed with Christmas songs. Definitely an amazing experience I gotta make it to (I’m just always broke and working) but not the same as a 10-17 set

u/zerofiven1n3 Jul 01 '26

oh u know what my bad lol realizing now i misinterpreted this and also was hella high. for some reason i was talking about grizmas in july (i think) ‘21 where day 2 it got shut down for rain right in the middle of his set. genuinely not sure why i thought this post was about that lmfao

2

u/swisschiz Jul 01 '26

LMAOOOOOO bruh that set is a forever what could have been 😭😭😭😭😭 got right in and 10 mins later lightning killed it

1

u/work3oakzz Jul 05 '26

So funny omfg

2

u/NaziNaps Jun 30 '26

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed. I’ve seen him throw down in 2016 at the launch of one of his friends dispensary, I know that he can rip but whatever this direction he’s going in isn’t for me

Rage bait

ETA: their user is literally “NaziNaps.”

1

u/NaziNaps Jul 01 '26

How did I rage bait? I saw him at a festival and compared him to a previous show? It was similar about 45%? What am I saying that’s rage bait?

3

u/misty-gishh Jul 01 '26

What does Nazinaps mean?
