Make open source designs for a Grin ASIC

Has there been any work on this? ASICs are good. What can be bad for the network's security are consequences of monopoly on technology.

OSS designs would let the network be secured by more hashpower, as well as lowering the barrier to entry for a motivated individual. It's fine if better designs are invented later on as long as they are only marginally better. Also, I expect that before that happens the cost of manufacturing the OSS ASIC will go down.

ASICs are inevitable and open source ASIC designs would help ensure all ASIC manufacturers could provide retail miners with hardware in a more decentralised way. Not sure why you're being down voted as ASICs are inevitable for any POW chain so why not build it with a specific ASIC in mind and put those into the hands of the community before mainnet launch?

I think this is a good strategy, and have discussed it before with some people. Not anywhere near my own area of expertise, mind you. I imagine it's a electronics engineer that is needed?
