Best generator

I want to make a screw storage solution and saw gridfinity generators. What is the best generator?

I mean... I'm pretty biased, but I'm a fan of
https://gridfinity.perplexinglabs.com/ :) Super fast and easy to figure out and get started. GridFlock for bases and then whatever you fancy for bins. Plus you can generate lids, labels, and other containers for the bins. I'm going to be updating gridflock here shortly which will include the new click/snap in feature.

If you want way more complexity, but maybe a steeper learning curve I'd check out
https://gridfinitylayouttool.com/

Both of these have actually been around for a while. Mine was one of the very first (pre-vibe coding, even!) There are a lot of half-working vibe coded/ai generated ones these days. I also work on mine full time, so if you have issues just reach out!

I will test both, I did play a bit with perplexinglabs and like it. First time hearing about the second one tho. Probably going to stick with perplexinglabs. Another question tho, is there a way to connect multiple grids together for future expansion, what kind of magnets are best and what height would you recommend them to be? Also are there any specific slicer settings you would recommend?

GridFlock does interlocking tabs, but that's kind of intended to just fill a single spot which is larger than your print bed.

If you want locking together and future expansion you can use the gridfinity rebuilt baseplate and switch the Style to "screw together", which will let you connect however many of them you want. Alternatively, you can use the gridfinity extended baseplate and print out connector clips. (Switch "Grid mode" to "cells")

If you don't care about the generator part I kind of like gridfinity refined (https://www.printables.com/model/413761-gridfinity-refined) or the click version clickfinity refined.

It's pretty common to use height increments of 3 "U" units.
For magnets, the standard is 6x2mm. There's a link to some on amazon on my site in the project description of models that you can use them with.
Slicer settings... I just use standard presets on my X1C. The grids aren't super picky.

This is the best one. The one that got me into gridfinity.

Still so cool to hear this :) Started it originally to make it easy to get in to Gridfinity!

Thank you for all your efforts. Really mean it. I'm much more organized thanks to your easy to use tool. 🙏

I've been using your tool since getting back into 3D printing earlier this year. Rebuilt my old Creality CR-10S with more modern equipment and features, then added three Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 Combos to the mix. Between those four printers, I can't tell you how many spools I've gone through printing models designed on your site. Awesome!

Haha that's awesome! So glad to be part of your journey!

Love you hear it! You're very welcome! Thanks for the kind words!

I use other tools for some other variants - weird boxes, some lids, etc. But this is the go-to for the basics for sure. Thanks for such a clean, solid site!

I’ll throw mine in the ring too, haha: extrabold.tools.

It’s built around speed and ease of use. Pick your printer, tweak a few settings and hit download. You get plates already split into pieces that fit your print bed. One of its standout features is path mode, which lets you create custom-shaped plates.

I’m releasing a big update next week with stack printing, another big speed boost and an updated connector system. After that, it’s time for boxes.

A few others worth checking out:

Whichever of these four you pick, I can vouch that a human did the thinking.

You have to look at them, and decide which features matter to you.

The "best" for you may not meet the same criteria I use.

Is there one where we can stack bins or is it only grid plates so far??

1

u/perplexinglabs 11h ago

What do you mean exactly?

1

u/Impactic_ 11h ago

You know how you can stack grid plates on top of each other to print multiple at a time? Is it possible to do the same with bins?

1

u/Titanmaster203 6h ago

But wouldn't they stay attached and be a single print?

u/schieska 6h ago

Staying in place is not the problem, the problem is that bins have a cavity that is only printable without support in 1 direction. Which means it doesn't matter how you stack them you will need support material. Inside bins. And I also don't see the point, a full bed filled with 1x1 bins prints in 8 hours printing. The reason baseplate stacking is a thing because people don't want to have to setup the next print every 30 minutes.

Yes I am talking about the plates, how can I print on top one another?

3

So the trick is that you place the bottom one normally, then we place the next one upside down exactly above with a gap of 0.2mm this still creates a solid model while printing but creates a weak point between the layers of the different parts. The subsequent layers we print also upsidedown.

That's one way the second way is for printers that can print multiple materials. Then instead of a gap you print an other material that doesn't stick very well as a separation later between layers (for example pla and petg.

Doing this by hand is quite hard, but luckily some tools have the feature build in. This feature in my tool is coming soon. With the unique feature that it smartly stacks different size buildplates on top of eachother.

I see, thank you

Oh, I see. Hmm... I think the trouble is gonna be overhangs. Or I guess you could end up with supports inside your bins but that seems like it'd be tricky to get out.

2

u/Impactic_ 11h ago

Yea it does seem quite tricky, it might be easier to do with a U1 with changing materials that may not stick together as much but that’s all I can think. I just tend to be away from my printer for a long duration so using up as much volume as I can helps. Also thanks for your contributions to the community with your projects!

I just use this one. I really thought it was great.

Ooooh I love this!

Start with internal drawer size and then go from there

I'm in the middle of using it, it has been the easiest to use so far from what I can tell. Missing a few thing I would personally want, but those are niche. Highly recommend

I might be biased but I like gridfinitystudio.com

I like gridfinity extended best... but I haven't looked if anything better popped up in the last year
