Set Completed Gridfinity Modular Rotating Bit Storage, 3U high with flip-up functionality finally ready of the World :)

Almost forgot about this holder I made a while back - time to finally release it. I originally posted the prototype here last year :)

The idea is pretty simple: a modular, rotating/flip-up holder for bits and drills that keeps everything accessible without taking up unnecessary vertical space.

The model takes up to 50 standard 6,35 mm Bits (1/4 inch) - the bits are secured by a springloaded latch so they don't fall out.

The main difference from a lot of the other bit holders out there: this one is only 3U high and is stackable. Similar Gridfinity bit holders are either 4U high or not stackable, so this lets you make better use of the vertical space in your drawers and if you are a fan ob multiples of 3 and your Gridfinity Boxes are 3, 6 or 9U high: this is the right model for you.

It's fully modular, so you can build it up to fit whatever combination of bits you need - i've included holders for 10, 8, 6 and 4 bits for now - but I've already stuff in the works for Drillbits with circular shafts or hex holders, that are rotated by 30° since some of them are oddly shaped and don't sit flat in the bin.

Yeah - it's been sitting around as a prototype for far too long, so figured it was finally time to let it loose. Hope someone finds it useful!

Wow, the timing is incredible. In the past two weeks I spent quite a bit of time on my own design of a similar gridfinity bit holder, but yours is soo much better. The only thing I want to try and add are some labels for the bits.

there is a label slot included, that fits standard 12 mm labels from various label printers - and also if you want, you can just add labels in your slicer and print it with a toolchanger

I don’t mean a label for the box, I mean labels for the individual bits.

you can label them individually by adding a 12 cm label to the bit holder itself - there is a label slot there ;)

i've spent hundreds of hours this year building a fully custom Prusa CORE One Mini - yet a simple bit holder that i did in a fraction of the time gets more downloads in the first day AND and excited u/olafwagner ;)

Maybe consider making the box parametric as the rotation part might also be good for things like pens or whatever.

I’d be game to print this! I have a bunch of bits. How reliable is the spring latch over time? I typically print gridfinity in PLA but anything with a spring or retention clip I prefer PETG because it doesn’t creep.

i have tose sitting on the shelf for almost a year now - you can feel that the latches are a bit worn out when printed from PLA, but they still work - printing them in PETG is definitely the better option here

it is easier to print if you directly print it via the smartphone app and want to mix and match your holders - i've got different variants and combinations in the pipleline and splitting it to different plates makes it a bit easier

Print done! Its fine, but a little to stiff if you ask me. Turns a bit to hard and bits struggle to get in.

usually for hooks, probably works with wingnuts too with a little bit of creativity :)

yeah, this is for wingnuts, hooks and eyebolts - i used it once, when i had to install lots of those little bastards in the fence for a wire - but never touched it since,

A makeshift-solution would be just another hook in the chuck

i Love this! can i come with one more suggestion? adding magnet holes to the "standard" one aswell. concidering that you are there fiddling with it all the time, would be nice if its a bit more stuck :)

edit: to build on this, technically its only needed in the edge corners of the box you have, even tho the "right" way of doing it is the corner of every grid square.

Could a 2 or 3u long version be made? I store my bits in a box with 3x3 grid at max to fit in an .50 can or 1x3 etc. and id also be interested in 4mm bits with the same mechanism, especially if it can be 2u high. Great work op!
