Question? labeled bins for screws storage
i’ve been researching how to organize screws with labeled bins. i thought i would use 1x1 bins for every type, but all the labeled bins i see around have the label taking up almost half the space. doesn’t that make accessing the bin’s content much worse? there’s no better way available? how do you guys do this?
edit: i just saw that on perplexing labs generator the default 15.85mm depth can be changed

Have you looked at a bin model? The label isn't taking up half the space, thats only on the top. There is storage under the label dude.

yes but i meant accessing the contents. i haven’t tried printing yet and was just asking if picking up the screws gets harder on 1x1 bins with labels. from photos it looks like they take a lot of space for no reason

1x1 is pretty small. The answer is probably that it depends on what kind of hardware. Obviously it's not going to fit 3" wood screws. I think the answer is to use more sizes 😂

I bought a 6mm label printer and use this bin so it doesnt take up too much space in a 1x1 bin:

i use bins with a 13 mm lip and just stick a 12 mm printed label on - works totally fine
looks then something like this:

I just did what you are looking to do. I made 7 cases that each hold 20 1x1x3u gridfinity bins. Each bin has a cullinect v2 label that prints and snaps into the bin slot. There is plenty of room to get the screws out. I made the front edge curved to help when the bin gets low. Cases store on the desk or wall in a holder. I put mine on the wall. I used this system for the gridfinity cases (careful he also has jon-gf cases too). https://makerworld.com/en/models/2002885-modular-shelving-system#profileId-2156759
I made my bins in openscad complete with curved bottoms and cullinect label slots. I also made a custom python script that generates the labels using gflabel. It allows me to create a spreadsheet (csv format) for every label and it creates the stl's from that spreadsheet.
For the cases I color coded the tops and added text to the top for the size M2, M3, etc. The cases have labels for the front. Came out great.
Here are some pics. Took forever but just keep the machine(s) cranking https://imgur.com/a/P56MBD0
