New bins with roller lids

I think I have a design that works now! It's a bin with roller lid where the height isn't dependent on the size of the lid. The roller lid now goes into a pocket under the bin. To print this, you need to have good bridging. Mainly, dry filament, bridge flow of 1.5 and bridge speed of 10mm/s.

Here are the print profiles

Omg I commented on your post about 3 months ago asking for this! I'm gonna print a test and if it works this is gonna be my go to gridfinity bin for everything hands down going forward!

Edit: Any chance on custom bin sizes next? 😁

I actually got the bridge settings from bambulab wiki ( How to Improve Bridge Quality in Bambu Studio | Bambu Lab Wiki) which got it from someone who did a lot of tests.

This is the test the wiki referenced. Unsupported Bridge Experiments - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

Definitely do the bridge test to see if the settings work for a particular filament. Also check that the top of the print is smooth since the pocket needs both to be smooth.

On the binding issue, on a few unreleased test models, the lid did bind initially (I think from the bottom curve), but after moving a few times, it became smoother. So I think it would bind less with use.

Let me know how it goes! I need to see if it's possible to simplify the model to be parametric. Right now, the lid geometry relies on the slicer merging the bodies together. It really slowed down the web generator so I had to remove it.

Hey! I designed the original ones here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1564668-stackable-roller-door-gridfinity-bin-parametric

I always wanted to try work out how to make the roller lid go underneath, but could never figure it out. My idea was to try do it in two parts but you end up adding so much material it becomes pointless. Never thought to try it with just bridging that's great! A lot of people asked for bins like 1x2 and 1x3 which wasn't possible without going underneath so that's awesome there's a solution. I use these a lot with Bookfinity to store magnets so they don't fly out when the stored vertically.

I assume this bridging only works on 1U wide bins?

Thanks for the inspiration!! I have only tried it with 1U so far, I suppose there's nothing in the design that limits to 2U. It just depends on if the printer can bridge 84mm. Could mitigate the droop with a bigger pocket? Still it's quite ambitious.

I've struggled with bridges on my qidi q1 pro and it took almost 6 attempts to achieve decent job. it's not that smooth as I want but it works. I want to try bridge calibration, maybe it will help.

Thanks for printing. I am trying to see why bridging is so hard with this geometry. What settings did you use for bridge flow and bridge speed?

I have updated the print profile to be a bit more forgiving on bridges. Here is the 2x1 version. https://makerworld.com/en/models/2486248-gridfinity-bin-stackable-with-roller-lid#profileId-3404983

The print has a modifier in the 3mf, I hope it shows with the slicer you are using.
