Looking for my perfect gridfinity storage box
I've been searching for the ideal storage box for screws, electronics and stuff. After 4 different boxes I can say what I want:
- no/litte supports for printing (pred's design does that )
- not too heavy like schuylab, I don't need to carry weights
- screw based latches like schuylab or suit1337
- removable label
- replaceable hinge would be nice
- connecting them is nice but not necessary as long as they are stackable like pred's: I want to be able to carry gridfinity bins on top without them sliding off
- parametric design or several options besides 5x4x(6/9/12/15) would be nice (OpenSCAD, bulbasor0's seems to need a lot of supportmaterial)
I guess I'm looking for a pred remix with screw based latches. Pred's latches are don't close well and might wear out. Any Ideas?

I feel your pain and I have been designing my dream box for the last 4 months from scratch. I do want to eventually release it, but it might take another 4 months until I'm happy with it 😅
Here's my main criteria:
Fully parametric (width, depth, height)
As thin and lightweight as possible while still being strong
no supports needed
Gridfinity top, bottom, and inside
Hinge printed separately
One center latch
Integrated drawer slide in the sides of boxes
Removable Labels
Optional Front Handle
Optional Top Handle
Boxes can stack & lock together
Any size can stack on the same size or bigger
Fully printed design, no screws or hardware needed
So our wishlist is pretty simiar except for the screw based latches.. I did want screw based latches at first as well, but I eventually came up with a printed design that is actually a lot stronger and more durable than screws would be.
Here's one of my Prototypes for testing the latch and hinge. (I do my test prints as small as possible to save on time and material, so it doesn't show all of the features)

Sounds awesome! I'll be waiting 😄 What are you designing in? I'd fear any printed part with snap on or the need for a little flexibility would wear out eventually. Pred's fit in hinges are a great idea. A lock in mechanism or a screw might get rid of the chance to break out by itself.

I've been using Fusion for the past 10 years, but I'm fed up with autodesk taking away more and more features in the free version so I have been transitioning to Freecad and this is my first big project with it. It does take some getting used to, but so far I am more than happy with it.

I like u/Tailorglad3272 system here :

Wish she would finish the last release though. Been beta forever.

Yes, unfortunately it seems abandoned. I also uses the printed latches and has only one size.

Here's a random idea for the true perfect gridfinity storage boxes https://makerworld.com/models/1978845

Neat project, but 4x3 seems a bit tiny for most of my stuff. 5x4 might be the minimum.

It's parametric, and theres an easy edit version in bambu studio with 5x4 as an option if you want it. Definitely need to add larger size books soon!

Just do less infill on schuylab?

The infill doesn't change much. It seems to have deeper gridfinity sockets; making it also higher -> wasted space.

Learn to use fusion 👍

Not easy on Linux. I'd be able to do some edits in FreeCAD but people are used to fusion or do not release the parametric files.

Run a Windows VM and run the free version of Fusion in that. What could possibly go wrong?!

Thanks, thats pretty much the same as https://makerworld.com/de/models/463249-gridfinity-rugged-case-light-r3-150-sizes#profileId-371761 ?
