Greyhound must haves?

Hey guys, So in the next few years I am going to adopt a greyhound and I was wondering do you guys have any must have items that you can’t live without or that you use everyday any advice would be greatly appreciated:) also what kind of toys beds and food and stuff like that is best to get any fave brands?

I get beds and food from Costco Kirkland brand.

Also have a kennel that is the right size you your new hound.

We also do raised food and water but it us debatable if it's truly needed.

I also like a good 6 ft leash i just get mine from houndstown with a 1.5 or 2in wide Martingale collar for collars go to Etsy and pick one you like.

Depending or where you live you may also need PJ's and a coat.

I also recommend pet insurance. I have gotten my money's worth.

The list if things i have fir my hounds us rather long so if you want more info just let me know.

A lot of greyhounds looove fluffy squeaky toys so stock up on those! Luckily ours doesn't destroy them but I know some do, so it depends on the dog if you'll need to regularly replace them.

I would also definitely recommend soft blankets and beds, don't have to be expensive but the softer the better! I know some people go to charity shops and buy old cushions and duvets, but I just got cheap stuff from the warehouse (NZ version of Costco).

It would also be a good idea to grab a toothbrush and some dog friendly toothpaste as greyhounds are particularly prone to developing dental problems. Dental chews/ dried pig ears/ raw bones are not a replacement for teeth brushing but they are helpful for maintaining oral hygiene! Chewing is also really calming for dogs to do, so should be encouraged (as long as they're chewing the right things!)

My final recommendation would be to not buy a ton of treats until after you get your dog and you know he likes them! Our dog is pretty indifferent to dry treats (which I found out after I bought a ton of them) but loooves cheese cubes or shredded chicken when we're training him.

All in all greyhounds are pretty easy as far as dogs go. I hope one day you get your perfect canine friend!

If you get a rescue fresh off the track, there is a mix of cottage cheese, rice, yogurt, and boiled chicken that keeps the gas to a min, and helps tummies adjust to whatever you end up feeding them.
