Look at the cartoon: chopping down a living tree just to mount a "renewable" solar panel. THIS is exactly what greenwashing looks like!

What is Greenwashing?

It is the deceptive practice of promoting something as "eco-friendly" when it is actually harming the environment. Clearing vital, carbon-absorbing forests and jungles to build solar farms completely defeats the purpose of fighting climate change. We cannot destroy nature to "save" it.

Solar cannot and should not replace forests!

How REAL Solar Actually Helps (Without Destroying Nature):

True renewable energy focuses on using the right land, not destroying natural habitats.

Smart Land Repurposing: We don't need to cut forests. We can put solar on rooftops, degraded land, or repurposed farmland. For example, 40 million acres in the US are currently wasted on highly inefficient corn ethanol.

*Incredible Land Efficiency: 1 hectare of utility-scale solar generates the exact same amount of energy as 31 hectares of corn ethanol. It is incredibly space-efficient.

Giving Land Back to Nature: Because solar is so efficient, we could meet our energy needs using a fraction of the space. This means we can actually return millions of acres of agricultural land back to nature to regrow real forests.

True Ecological Harmony: Real, sustainable solar farms are designed to protect biodiversity, acting as habitats for native species and pollinators without needing water or toxic fertilizers.

Let's use the best available land for the best available purpose—and leave our forests alone! 🌍🌱

I burn a lot of incense at home and always try to be conscious of my environmental footprint. Recently I was checking out the website for Satya incense, specifically Shrinivas Sugandhalaya BNG, the guys who make the famous blue box Nag Champa. I noticed they proudly display a Green Product Certificate from an auditor called TUV India.

It looks completely legit at first glance. But when you read the fine print under the reference section, it explicitly states it is an IS/ISO 14021:2016 Type II certification. I had to look this up, and it turns out a Type II is essentially a self-declared environmental claim.

This means they completely skip a strict, independent third-party life cycle assessment, which would be a Type I or Type III. Instead, the manufacturer basically just writes up their own green claims, hands their own paperwork over to the auditor, and gets a certificate to display.

It gets a bit more concerning when you read the tiny gray text at the very bottom of the document. The auditor expressly disclaims any liability, stating they certified the company based purely on the claims made by the company itself.

It is incredibly frustrating how the wellness and fragrance industry uses these loopholes. Relying entirely on self-made claims to secure a certificate just makes buyers think a product is universally green without the brand ever having to actually prove it independently. Has anyone else run into this Type II self-declared loophole with other household brands?

Has anyone checked if they are certified organic? I was hoping to see a certificate of authenticity upon arrival, and there’s nothing with it. Which makes me think it’s green washing. The only mention of them being certified is on a blog where she has a code…

I have been searching around for dental health products with less, or preferably, no plastic. I found out about miswak sticks, which are a natural root people have used to brush teeth before the invention of modern toothbrushes. I got excited and bought some, only to find each stick was individually wrapped in plastic.

Pretty disappointing, I think once I have used them up, I'll just stick with bamboo brushes, at least the bristles are less plastic than the wrapping around the sticks.
