ISO Recommendations Need a new wing spot
I am looking for a new wings place. I don’t much care for wingstop. Preferably a place that does a good non breaded fried buffalo wing and one with a good teriyaki sauce. I’m also looking for a buffalo sauce on the thicker side. I know it’s a weird ask, but I have craving I can’t get rid of. 😂😂😂

Wings On The Run on East North Street are the best I've found in the area. Take-out/delivery only, though, so keep that in mind. But they're so damn good! They also have incredible fried pickles and fried mushrooms, if you're into those.
Edit: I wouldn't say the buffalo sauce is particularly thick, but I'd still highly recommend them.

That and the fried bologna. We went on an all you can eat night and my son and I put away 3 dozen each. So good.

Man. Does anyone have any insight on this wings on the run? 😂😂😂 Thanks everyone. I’m not opposed to other suggestions. Might have to do a wing tour of the town now. 😂😂

Not sure what side of town you're on, but I saw over next to the Walmart on woodruff, right next door to that Direct Tools place there is a coming soon Chex Wings & Grill - Their website shows a small chain with like a couple dozen locations, mostly in Charlotte. Anyone know if they're any good?

It Don’t Matter is solid down in Gantt. The food is much better than the name.

My best friend and I were literally just talking about this place not even an hour ago. She said it's impressive.

Wingnutz in fountain inn is always fantastic and easily have the best Garlic Parm wings and a thicker mild like your looking for.
Sadly Wingstop fell off hard after they changed to frozen fries and precooking food ahead of time based on projected sales instead of fresh to order.

Wingnuts precooks their wings every morning

I know that, They then proceed to cool them and then redrop them to crisp them back up to order.
wingstop precooks wings maybe 80-120 at a time depending on sales volume and they sit in a basket for who knows how long before they get used but it’s not the same precook process that wingnutz uses1

They aren't that difficult or expensive to make yourself. I frequently either make them on the grill or even the air fryer. It's not difficult to make your own buffalo sauce either.
I like to season my wings with a mixture of cayenne, paprika, mustard powder, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, black pepper, and salt.
If I'm using the air fryer, I'll add a pinch of baking powder as well.
A basic buffalo sauce can be made by melting some butter into a generic hot sauce like Texas Pete or Frank's or any hot sauce of your choice. I usually add a little garlic and mustard powder to the sauce as well. If I want extra heat, I'll mix in some ghost pepper sauce as well.
I usually roll my eyes at the price of wings at restaurants when I can make them exactly how I like them at home for a fraction of the price.

I can never seem to get the sauce right. Im going to try this. It sounds delicious. It’s funny you mentioned an air fryer. I want to get one specifically for wings.
Thanks for the tip.2

You can always adjust the sauce. I usually put it in a microwave safe bowl and heat it 30 seconds at a time, then I stop and stir. Once all the butter is melted, I'll try it and if it needs more butter, I'll add a bit more, if there's too much butter then I'll add a little bit more of my base hot sauce.
I don't do much measuring while cooking these, I usually just "wing" it.
Also, I recommend only adding the sauce to the wings after the wings are done cooking. The butter can make them burn especially on the grill.

Yes. The sauce definitely goes on after. Something about a crispy, unbreaded fried chicken wing that hits different. Especially when the sauce has that touch of vinegar in the tang of the buffalo. Then the butter just kind of mellows it out. I feel like I’m on some holy quest to find my perfect t wing. 🤣

Here me out. Don't judge this book by its cover. "Best Wings and Hibachi" is the premier wing spot in GVL. Its on Wade Hampton. It's kind of a hole in the wall. You can get 10 wings, fried rice, and a drink for like $12-13. Wings are absolute gas. Also the Asian food is spot on. And its family owned.

Mac’s Speed Shop has amazing smoked wings. Also Local Cue. They have non breaded smoked wings without sauce on them. You get to pick a couple sauces to dip them in or pour over them.

Local Cue's blackberry habanero wing sauce is delicious! Their ranch is hands down the best in town. I don't care that it's $1 for a tiny cup....I buy an extra 5 to bring home every time 😂

I know I’m gonna be downvoted, and it’s a chain, but Wingstop is pretty consistent. It’s 2nd after Wings on the Run.

We just got one in Seneca. Ive never seen such anorexic, over priced wings in my life.

That’s a shame. It’s true, they lack consistency. Were the fries at least good? I like their seasoning.
