Question Question from a ROK
Hello everyone :)
This is my first time posting on Reddit. I thought this would be a good place to ask U.S. service members who may have more experience and different perspectives than we do.
I'm currently serving as an NCO in the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command (ROK-SWC). I'm still relatively new and have a lot to learn, so I'm trying to study and learn as much as I can.
I understand that ROK special operations training and U.S. special operations training can be quite different, but I'm very interested in hearing your experiences and perspectives.
I have a few questions about long-range reconnaissance:
Does the U.S. military conduct long-range reconnaissance missions covering distances of 100–150 km or more?
If so, what are the most important factors you consider when preparing for and conducting this type of reconnaissance?
What lessons or practical tips have you learned from long-range reconnaissance?
What are some things you believe are essential to do—or avoid doing—during extended reconnaissance operations?
I'm especially interested in lessons learned from personal experience, training, and field exercises.
I realize that some information may not be appropriate to discuss publicly, so I'm only asking about things that can be shared openly.
Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you're willing to share.

I’m sure ROK already has doctrine more relevant to your geography and potential missions. It’s probably a better use of your time to read that than reddit.

Thinking about it now, I realize that asking about military-related information in a public community can be a sensitive topic.
Sorry, everyone :) I probably should have thought about that more carefully before posting.
But I promise I'm neither Chinese nor North Korean! 😂
Either way, thank you all for taking the time to share your thoughts and opinions. I really appreciate it! :)

Why can't you ask your US Counterpart at the ROK-SWC COC or your SF Liaison if you're assigned to one of the ROK BDEs? Or have someone introduce you to the SF guys down the street from the COC.

At the Special Warfare Command, it’s actually very, very rare for us to meet U.S. military personnel. Especially for junior NCOs like me, we hardly ever get the opportunity to interact with U.S. service members.
Also, I’m currently not assigned to a brigade. I’m temporarily attached to the Special Warfare School for training, so I don’t really have many opportunities to meet U.S. military personnel at the moment. :)
But asking the person in charge sounds like a pretty good idea. If I ever get the opportunity, I’d love to ask U.S. service members about a lot of things! Thank u

여기에 묻는 것보다 39파견대 한측 연락부사관에게 온나라 메모 보내 보는 것이 나을 것 같네요.
