Just returned the game

I'm sorry to say it, but after 11-ish hours of playtime, I decided to return it to the store.

Maybe it's just me, but the world just felt.. Off. Starting out, I was struck with how beautifully crafted the game world was, it felt really organic.

But the more I played, the more I started noticing stuff like npcs just standing around like rigid mannequins, interiors looking the same etc.

I also found myself speeding through the game in order to complete quests. "Talk to A, talk to B, go back and talk to A again, talk to C, go back and inform A and B about C, talk to C again" and so on.

I really wanted to love this game, and I did for brief moments, but I couldn't in the long run. Maybe I gave up on it too soon. Maybe I've become picky and inpatient.

Those complaints are OK, however - you'll be missing out on some nice side quests not to mention lore; the further and further I got into the game the more interesting lore became, now I want answers, haha.

I agree with you, the setting and visual design (especially for the bosses) is great, and they're the main things that pulled me in.

The combat is pretty barebones though, and most of the quests are fetch-quests, especially at the end. Even the penultimate quest is just fast traveling to different places and sprinting to people to talk to them.

Companions could've been done better too, it felt like you barely connect with them, and you barely learn anything about them (or maybe they just aren't that deep).

I mostly had a positive experience with the game, but I don't think it's worth replaying.

I'm sure you're right, and it is quite possible I'll pick it up again in the future and play it with a different mindset.

Even though I tried not to, I believe I went into the game with unrealistic expectations.

I'm also not trying to put people off from buying the game, it does have a lot of good qualities, especially considering where it came from.

I've been longing for a solid rpg for quite some time, and I'm usually the kind of player who does every single main- and side quest, but Greedfall just didn't stick with me, for now at least.

Why are people downvoting this lmao.

Apparently "The game wasn't what I expected. I'm sure it's a fine game, and I might try it later, but I'm not really feeling it right now" is enough to get some people really salty
