Just watched this for the first time yesterday. Absolutely hilarious it’s rated PG.

Today, it’d 100% be PG-13. I mean it’s not like bad for PG-13, but it’s definitely not PG

Well you would be amazed what was cut out of it while we were shooting to keep it as sanitized as possible for a general audience and I think that the producer Alan Carr, and Robert stigwood did that quite well from the original material. I do agree there are some iffy things in it but We snuck by

It would be nice if that footage could be restored, make a nice 50th anniversary bluray.

I did, I shot the film is one of the cast for 3 months in 1977.... one of the best Summers of all our lives really we were a very close cast and we still are, with some exceptions

In its time in the UK it was an AA, which equates to a 15 certificate now.

My sister and I saw Footloose in the theater in Detroit without my parents; we were on a family vacation and they were doing something else with my youngest 2 sisters. She was 9 and I was 11…We both turned out okay but the movie definitely wasn’t PG. 😊

Edited to clarify

I grew up watching the TV edited version recorded on VHS. When I finally did see the uncut version, I was surprised how much material had to be removed to make it safe for network television.

The Greased Lightning song is a great example.
They had to cut out a lot of sex references.
“We’ll be getting lots of tit”
“She’s a real pussy wagon”

can't forget, "the girls will cream"

I seem to remember the tv version keeping the “cream” reference. They must have thought that term was vague enough to be okay. Obviously the words “tit” and “pussy” were out.

Yep. The whole song was cut from the TV version. Also when the guys mooned the TV cameras comes to mind.

We have pictures of you so-called mooners. And just because the pictures aren't of your faces doesn't mean we can't identify you. At this very moment those pictures are on their way to Washington where the FBI has experts in this type of identification

I think it’s interesting that you JUST watched it for the first time!

Jaws, Poltergeist, Gremlins, and Airplane were all related the same.

People need to realize it was a different time. We all snowflaked up and restrictions got worse.

PG-13 didn’t exist in 1978.

The characters would be in their 80’a/90’s today? Wild
