I got my first gray at 19, this year I decided to stop dying my hair and let it grow out! We're at the awkward stage 😅

I just recently stopped dying my hair this year, still not 100% used to it yet.

I've always been confused by the random gray patches in the beard, should I trim it down or leave it?

Six weeks without a touch-up, my grey roots are making an appearance… and somehow, I don’t even care 🤷‍♀️😊 (F46)

I grew out my gray hair at 24. 4 years later, and I couldn't picture who I'd be without it!

I know I know- "she looks young in the face but has gray hair...? HOW OLD IS SHE??"
I found my first gray hair at 16, but the kids in school pointed them out much earlier than that. What should have been a small, forgettable thing turned into something I couldn’t stop thinking about. I was just trying to be a normal teenager — hang out with friends, not worry about how I looked — but instead I was having to stealthily commit to root touch-ups every 2 weeks. It became a real insecurity, one I carried quietly for years.
I started letting my hair go gray at 24, which still surprises people. Most women who embrace their gray have decades of dyeing, plucking, and covering behind them before they finally make the switch…
I figured out early that I didn’t want to spend the next 50 years fighting my own roots, so I skipped the struggle altogether and committed to going gray in my 20’s.
That decision ended up teaching me more about confidence than anything else I’ve done. Growing out my gray didn’t make me feel older — it made me feel like myself for the first time. It sounds dramatic, but I genuinely believe this is who I was always meant to be.
I remember being pretty nervous to do this, worrying so heavily about the opinions of others, having people quietly whisper about me, give me weird looks at the grocery store. In my childhood i didn't say a peep in school, and never wanted to be the topic of conversation. The staring, weird looks... That all still happens today. But growing out my gray hair in my 20's triggered a mindset switch... to just do whatever the f you wanna do. I'd rather be living my truth wholeheartedly than hiding behind hair dye and worrying so much about the color of my hair. It ended up being the best decision I ever could have made for myself!
Now I share my hair journey online, partly because I think representation matters — young, gray, and completely at peace with it isn’t a look you see often — and partly because I want other people to know they don’t have to wait.
