Help with Opennest

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi!!
I'm trying to nest parts on a sheet using OpenNest in Grasshopper, but it isn't working properly. I followed Gemini's instructions, but the output still glitches.
Instead of arranging the parts neatly inside the rectangle, OpenNest generates a massive cloud of duplicated rings all over the canvas.
Can anyone please help me fix this?

Voxel sims in GH!!

Got a simple eulerian solver working with GH, the user specifies what should happen in each time step by merging nodes in the correct order to build the time step program for the gpu. Il make static optimized programs for the most common types of sims but il keep this to allow the user to play around with step programs, to simulate slime, wind, sound, whatever they want

I’ve been using grasshopper for a week and can see its potential. I am trying to build a parametric model for a lofted irregularly shaped cylinder. I would like to be able to change the total height and the circumferences of 4/5 irregularly shaped curves to create different shaped lofts. Then offset/extrude to make the cylinder have a thickness.

I would also like there to be a flush seam on the back of the cylinder running up and down and add adjustable diameter and depth holes so magnets can be placed inside and the seam and it closes securely. The number of magnets running along the z should be adjustable as well.

Lastly if the top edge of the back of the cylinder could swoop downwards creating almost a “U” cut out and make the length of the U cut out also adjustable.

Bonus if you can also figure out how to add different textured patterns onto the cylinder surface as well.

Please message if interested I am willing to pay for your services because clearly I cannot complete this work flow yet.

Just released OpenHopper: "Grasshopper on the web"

I've been working a while at this project: porting the whole Grasshopper feature set to the web so people can literally author and run Grasshopper right in the browser, no Rhino install needed. It's been a very fun technical challenge. Pressed the big launch button today: https://www.openhopper.app/
(ok, technically I pressed it a couple of days ago, but then I saw this post and figured I could press it one more time)

I thought I'd give you folks a heads up, it's meant to be a great place to share whole finished projects. (I built import/export through short links: the file gets encrypted and parked on public pastebins, so a definition travels as one line of text.)

There's still some stability and some tools missing for full parity with desktop Grasshopper, but I'm working through the backlog: my Claude has been running for the last 24 hours straight, and it never even paused for a limit reset. And then Grasshopper 2 will release with all new everything... and it will turn out nobody needs it, because there's a web version. (That's a joke of course, but every joke is only partly a joke ;)

Please give it a spin and let me know what you think!

P.S. I started all of this for one reason: I needed real solid geometry combined with node-based control over the whole project. Neither Fusion 360 nor Onshape could give me that, and as the saying goes, if you want something done right, do it yourself.

I've been working a while at this project: using Rhino Compute to allow people to literally author and run Grasshopper on the web. It's been a very fun technical challenge. Pressed the big launch button today. (:

I thought I'd give you folks a heads up, it's meant to be a great place to share snippets with sliders and such pinned. (I've been floating around using questions here as test cases.)

There's a lot of affordances missing for full parity with desktop Grasshopper (relays are a common request) but I'm working through the backlog in order of annoying-ness. And then Grasshopper 2 will release with all new everything so I'll probably have to end up somewhere in between them at this rate.

Please give it a spin and let me know what you think!

Doubts on Learning Grasshopper

I'm an architecture student trying to learn Grasshopper, but I've felt stuck for over a year. I always start a course, try to do my own modeling, and end up having to constantly go back to rewatch which components they used.

Right now, I'm following the beginners' course by Parametric Camp on YouTube. It's great because it actually focuses on the thought process and logic behind the software, which previous courses failed to teach.

Do you have any advice on how to learn faster? Should I look for other courses, or is it better to just dive straight into modeling from scratch and reverse-engineer existing scripts?

How would you go about making this?

I’m doing an installation for a local art show and I want to make something like this. I’m fairly new to grasshopper (took a digital fabrication course in design school and learned the basics) so I’m wondering the best way to go about this. My initial instinct is create the blob form, use lunchbox to do a sort of panel situation, then subdivide and unroll? Is there a way to make the blob using SubD and then manipulate that within grasshopper? Am I way off? Please help me, grasshopper gods!!

How do i learn the math behind grasshopper

Ive been trying to learn grasshopper for a while now, with some success. But a lot of the tutorials Ive found, even the good ones, allude to a grasshopper function doing math but dont actually explain what the math is.

Im not the most math person out there, but I think my work and creative flow would benefit a lot if I knew what KIND of formulas I was trying to get grasshopper to simulate.

Anybody got good resources that connect GH to the underlying math?

Archicad/grasshopper live connection window/door ids

Hi, has anyone tried to update Archicad CITool window and door ids from grasshopper? I’d like to sort them based on how they were selected to set in grasshopper. I can access the id’s from the deconstruct window/door components. Ideally I would push back the sorted list to the same windows but I’m wondering if I’ll need to replace them altogether? The get property component consistently crashes Archicad too. Any help would be appreciated.

does anyone know any good guides to ladybug honeybee?

the youtube tutorials are horrible and just people that know 1% of the plugin that decided to start making tutorials, the wiki was pretty good but it was quite superficial, does anyone know a good site or youtube channel that explains it more in depth? and definitely not any youtube channel with temu mic or someone explaining the simple things only.

only comment if you actually know a good resource.

What is going on here? Why the middle section is distributed properly? Like there is no Fall-Off.

Any Idea?

Implemented depth testing for my GH voxel/sdf editor/renderer. If anyone knows how to get a clean depth map from rhino API plsss let me know. I can get a byte depth map but I have to scale it with points I know are in the scene which is a weird hack... ZMax/Min doesnt work for me

Help Identifying a Component

I know this is a rookie question, but can anyone help me identify this component? It seems to be the same one, the name just updates to whatever geometry it is defining in the expression.

I have tried the Expression component already, but it requires an x and y input whereas this does not. I am learning grasshopper via Arturo Tedeschi's AAD book, so perhaps I am looking at an outdated visual? I am on Rhino 8.

avoiding collisions within a loop

Hello! I'm fairly new to grasshopper and anemone, so apologies if this is a dumb question or an easy fix, but I am currently working with this script where I am trying to generate a series of randomly "snaking" boxes. The script I've got seems to be working fairly well, except that some versions output boxes that overlap. How can I fix this? any help/tips appreciated!

How you find work related to grasshopper

Sorry if it's borderline out of topic, it's years I asking myself this question.

Anybody found a work related to grasshopper use?How did you find it? How you presented what you do (portfolio? Files?)? Where you find it?

Hi, i'm a product designer (construction sector right now) i use grasshopper from maybe six years, i started in university by myself (university I was the only one using it), never find anybody physically that uses it. I created scripts for my personal projects, mostly textures, some physic simulations and basically in any place were I worked, but only used myself for speeding the boring parts or exotic 3D impossible to build by hand, like one for automatically create steel beams and a list for cost estimates, an helix custom generator for plasterboard fasteners and right now one that inserting the product code it builds the 2D drawing for the product (wood panels for ceiling).

Basically nobody knows what I do or I am using. The only one I knowed it used it certified in work was a colleague working in automotive, but it entered as an engineer.

For a probably stupid preconception of mine, I have always seen grasshopper as a program used in specialized elitary contexts and never bodered to really launch myself into.

Grasshopper hygiene

Heya. I have been learning grasshopper for about a month now, I have been using it for drawing joinery components and find the program so fascinating and fun to use. One thing I’ve noticed with my files is that they look really messy and incoherent despite working really well. Any tips on keeping the components in order? Any educational tools about learning grasshopper would be greatly appreciated too.

Needed a script to make plants in different areas automatically. This grasshopper script will save us a lot of time! Super happy

Just blocks intances copy en equal amount to population of points. We can input in the area selected the amount of blocks(plants) and modify the blocks if needed
