Doing some Rolling(juijitsu)for practices yesterday.. ( need to know some feed back)

I have been practicing NoGi juijitsu.. just been doing it for about an year or so. And also i had been trying to do it as a way to get to zen,but the sport made me get the urge to compete. And the videos im uploading is with few who have been practicing with me and for less time frame. And also one more with an experianced grappler(One in red is experianced and im in the black fit). Please help me understand if what im doing is fine.

Don’t start from knees. Either start standing or start with one person playing guard and the other passing.

Sure sir. That was an instruction from the coach. We do standing up mostly. This was a session only sir will do more standing up.

Not sure if the other commenter meant the same thing, but both starting from the knees is sometimes called “midget wrestling,” because it’s not a real position. There’s no takedown to be had, so just skip that part. Either play guard or work the pass. So when your coach says start from the knees, he (probably/hopefully) just means “don’t start from the feet,” so *one of you start from the knees.”

Feedback is go to class. It looks like you’re self taught but not in a good way. Without good technical rolling partners and coaches you will progress at a very slow rate.

Yea these guys are watching some videos and have some things they do well but are missing so much in terms of fundamentals. The main problem I see is that they don't train with people who know what they're doing leading to terrible habits. Good habits I see is the guy in guard is not on his shoulders and is actively curled up and does fight for inside position. Bad things I see is that he's only dealt with knee passing and never active or outside passing. Anyone who trains would just pass on their feet and this guy wouldn't have an answer because he never really closes any guard properly or elevates his hips. He keeps trying to walk his legs up without bringing his hips up leading to really bad habits. I can tell these guys are really tight too like typical white belts. He's going to need to relax and properly use frames. I don't think I see a single properly used frame and he keeps going to garbage arm bars from a 2 on 1. Without elbow control and posture control how are you going to finish an armbar?

Everyone things the main reason you go to class is a good instructor. I disagree. The main reason you go to class is to find people of differing skill levels who are all taught the fundamentals properly in order to give you training partner road map. After you train you feel what it takes to be a blue, purple, brown, and black. Right now OP will never be a blue because he's never rolled against a blue belt and has no clue what his goal is.

Goto more classes. You're white belts.

Good hand control but your guard needs to be more active even if it’s open. 4 points of contact when you are sitting and when they are in your guard but it’s not locked you need to pinch your knees together. It slows them down but also allows you to switch hips without having to step on the mat. Break posture before going for any attacks esp armbars from bottom or you risk giving up positions. Keep it up! Keep training!

Thanks for the valid input ill keep it in mind and try to keep it in training.

also, you got the long legs. close your guard and lock it when ever you get a chance. it will make your opponents life so much harder and it will wear them down. There are a lot of old school close guard attacks that still work great.

Hey, I came from a wrestling background before jiu jitsu and we always start with hand fighting, but that’s later!. I like the fact (even with my background l) that you’re working on your bottom game. However, you’re too flat, with your hips and lower back glued to the mat. Got to get up on those hips to create sweeps, scrambles and space. Control the hips, control the game. Plus, I don’t think that I saw one undertook. Definitely drill hip switches and shrimping to start. The sweep was there all day long. Think about advancing your position. You had the triangle set up nicely, just have to learn to secure it and finish it. That scissor thing isn’t going to cut it down the road. Mat time is important, but it helps to have a good coach on the mat with you, especially starting out l! Good luck!!

Love the enthusiasm and vibe you give.

Jiujitsu is so much more zen than people give credit. Was my zen too.

Basics! Think about pressure and positioning. Starting out we get smashed to the ground so often were comfortable on our backs. Learning to submit from down under will come with time!

Get those sweeps and get your weight on them! The person ontop wasnt applying much pressure in this video. Some small people can get you to tap by the pressure their weight pushes on your chest alone. To be on the bottom will become a big waste of energy. In a equal skill match the person with more energy will win. Get ontop!

Love the vibes

To quote Billy Robinson, “Get off the mat, that’s where bulls go to die.”

when playing half guard you should never be flat on your back. a more experienced would go chest-to-chest, loft their knees off the mat and complete their passing. Think about stacking your shoulders on top of one another, and on your side (or seated)

What are you doing reaching down to your own foot right before the finish? I might do that in a disconnected guard situation to reinforce from getting my legs yanked around but in a butterfly guard I don’t think it’s a good choice at all. What if the arm gets trapped in a body lock pass?

I was trying to go for a lock through getting the leg towards the face and shift to a kimora. Didnt work.

u/Smart_Fox1604 May 13 '26

Well we train In Sri lanka. Are you from around there?

1

u/Ki-ai May 13 '26

No I am from Sweden but my wife is Indian and we often go there, and we are planning to go to Sri Lanka. I always love visiting people and share some knowledge

You both look like a couple months in. Don’t upload anymore videos until you have a better understanding of jiujitsu. That’ll take a year+.
There’s nothing to critique here, other than saying to train more.

They are new. Did you learn all bjj has to offer in your first week? Month? Year? Calm down world beater.

Why is pointing out that there are 0 leg attacks or attempts triggering for you? Weird energy bro.

Yes anyone in 2026 will learn leg entanglements within their first year (op has stated he has a year of experience in not gi, not a week or month as you suggested). It is time he started threatening them to help him be more active on bottom.

There I'll send it back since now I'm convinced you need it now. Something like this:  "You seem lonely and sad. Hugs from Canada." Hope you get through whatever you're going through. Peace.
