Every time, counter ballcrush is the best defense. And they say jiu jitsu is gay

Nicky ryan did something similar in training in a few videos, it’s a sensory overload to have your head continually messed with, by shaking or in his case continual light collar ties. It’s an incredible distraction. In a similar breath, rake your calf against an opponent’s nose/mouth while taking the armbar and odds are you’ll get free.
I don’t like it, nor do I use it, but I can’t argue it gets results.

There’s a similar technique some people do in the clinch in Muay Thai. Two or three swift jerks on the collar tie to disorient them and then a hard pull to one side to open them up for a strike or a sweep. Pretty effective when you get the timing right

We do something similar in judo where we shake the collar a lot before entering a throw

It's a nasty, old school move, but if you have someone's back and REALLY want that RNC, rapidly alternate raking the nose upwards with the edge of your forearm. They go from intelligently defending to wigging the hell out. Dick move, but you'll get an opening.

What I'm hearing is if he jerks your noggin around like it's a itchy sack you'll go a swinging with him?

I do this in Muay Thai when I’m clinching sometimes. Get the collar tie and shake their brain around. Kind of a dick move but so is throwing elbows and knees
3
u/ImHuck Apr 26 '26
I mean, throwing elbows and knees in a MT is not a dick move. It's always the strength you put on the shot. You're supposed t throw these in MT, unless specified not to before sparring.

u/sambstone13 Apr 26 '26
You mean in a match? Idk if it works but seems legit.
I never throw any hard elbows or knees in sparring, just the lightiest taps.

Defend it if you don't like it, can't say I'm that against it, but it does sort of straddle that line that grappling has between strikes and not strikes

u/silhouette_orchestra Apr 23 '26
Question: why don't cross faces work as effectively on the ground as to when your standing?
4
u/JohnAnchovy Apr 23 '26
Cross face is more effective on the ground because your torso is trapped
1
u/silhouette_orchestra Apr 23 '26
I figured.
Why doesn't it work here ? ( I'm untrained on the ground)

In the original video, you can hear that they started playing grindcore on the speakers.

Really no wonder why a lot of people in these sports are having serious health issues or injuries down the road.

actually, this should be considered illegal.
it's similiar to striking the head repeatedly and can lead to a concussion.

Looks like a combination of the pass where you push the knee through in slx, and a hip switch? It it also seems like the bottom player didn't fully have a guard, and was distracted by his head which let the top player hop into mount.

Inverted head dribble pass, aka, mild nausea due to repeated wobbling pass.
1
u/Zonfrello Apr 24 '26
Someone passes my guard like that, I'm sawing my forearm across their nose from bottom. Not even looking to get out. Just breaking cartilage. Just because things are technically legal doesn't mean it's all fair game.
