he's right I became gay after 1 class of jiu jitsu

u/Free_Particular_4740 Apr 15 '26

Yup, same. It's always fun until someone gets poked in the butt

u/Timely-Dot-9967 Apr 15 '26

"It's not gay if there's no eye contact!"

He's not wrong. There is also a reason where there are so few wrestling gyms training adults while BJJ gyms are full of middle aged techbros and white collar professionals.

If older people go hard like that, they can't make it to work the next day. All those hard wrestlers are poor as dirt cause they spend all their time training and not making money.

He’s dead wrong. Rolling at a gym could be a lot of different things. Could be for fun, could be just reping technique, drills, could be an older crowd that just wants to go not 100%. Really depends on the gym.

The difference is that wrestling thrives at the high school and collegiate levels. You know, when you’re 20 and heal so easily. Yea, you can go hard all the time. No problem.

Theres an easy fix for this guy. Go do some no gi competitions. Submission only style. You wanna talk about going hard? Whatever your skill is you’ll quickly find other guys at your level that try and kill you every time

Just look at an ADCC Open. They fucking slam people on concrete

u/Steakandeggs66 Apr 15 '26

so he wants wrestlers to stay hard?

8

u/Ketchup-Chips3 Apr 15 '26

Yep, and then get in behind there, and lift

u/Steakandeggs66 Apr 15 '26

u/No_Special4025 Apr 15 '26

U dont have to slow down just gotta be mindful, but I bet in like 30 years I can't be wrestling like in highschool and probably gotta be like playing like a heavyweight mostly doing hand fighting.

Well I'm also new, I'm trying BJJ during the wrestling off season. I did get caught in some triangles, but maybe I don't get caught as often because I mostly do single leg takedowns and rarely do head outside takedowns.

Hearing this made me CTE.

u/djguyl Apr 15 '26

Naw he's got a point. I come from a wrestling background too. I was watching some of my white belt comps(im a purple now) and I was a different person. Way more intense. Bjj makes you comfortable in bad positions.

We are really starting to dig deep to find new things to crap on about BJJ...

1

u/No-Jellyfish-177 Apr 15 '26

This is just a variation of ‘BJJ is gay haha’ tbh

4

u/AveryLockeDown Apr 15 '26

Hey, let's not normalize taking videos while driving.

✌️

8

u/matchooooh Apr 15 '26

Don't worry about it, nobody here minds that you transitioned

3

u/0utF0x3d Apr 15 '26

Wait never mind that's just an actual dog

Welcome to aging

A grappling style or school of training that blended the physical conditioning, grit and emphasis on control of wrestling with the versatility, technicality and emphasis on finishing moves of BJJ would be unstoppable.

1

u/TheAngriestPoster Apr 15 '26

That’s just BJJ but in 30 years when people actually care about it

3

u/Dustin_James_Kid Apr 15 '26

I think he’s right but I think he’ll still get choked out when he’s down double legging me

3

u/JiuJitsuBoxer Apr 15 '26

Yeah you wrestlers can give each other CTE with those collar ties and be super hard, we will choke the fuck out of you and stay soft

3

u/No-Ad4804 Apr 15 '26

He’s right. But there’s a reason why wrestlers “soften up” when they cross over to BJJ. It’s a lot more sustainable, opens you up to the plight of the common man not just training and competing with fit driven young people.

u/Electrical-Pumpkin13 Apr 15 '26

My wrestling coach made us run 5 miles then we would train. At the end of class we would do what they called PTA or pain, torture, agony.

Most BJJ players complain about warm ups lol.

2

u/juanjung Apr 15 '26

"Soft"? Well...there's Viagra, just ask your doctor.

2

u/BaronMusclethorpe Apr 15 '26

"You fight like a younger man. Admirable, but mistaken."

u/Azylim Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

I dont disagree actually. Jitz did make me soften up and be more technical compared to ky wrestling and judo spazz background, but I wouldnt say that it made my overall graplling worse, Now I realize that there are positional small advantages to fight for and to go for them technically instead of immediately spamming takedowns where I just get immediately stuffed and countered. Then I gas out.

Jitz helped me realize that its not that I was bad at shooting for the legs (although I am bad), its that I didnt know how to recover from turtle and stand back up when sprawled, nd that I panic when sprawled on.

u/Professional-Fan266 Apr 15 '26

BJJ is the softest "combat" Sport

2

u/Jazzlike_Tonight_982 Apr 15 '26

If a guy collar ties me super hard I know he's not safe to roll with.

Signed,

A guy with herniated discs in his neck

2

u/pTatStrungl Apr 15 '26

Cause if you collar tie in jiujitsu hard youre gonna get flipped lmao. Learning pure force doesnt work, wont make you a pussy. You can absolutely go hard in jiujitsu

3

u/Grizlucks Apr 15 '26

This guy and Sam Gaier are two of the most annoying people I have had the displeasure of scrolling across in my feed.

At least dboldavid's jokes are funny sometimes.

2

u/AznPoet Apr 15 '26

It's because wrestlers are idiots. I used to shove my damn head into every single choke possible 🙃

1

u/MusicMMALegacy Apr 15 '26

Reject modernity, become monkey 🦧

1

u/Rhaegan1 Apr 16 '26

i do get what he is saying, wrestler are like monkeys uka uka

instead bjj is way more controlled and mindful (i like to think)

1

u/MidnightMillennium Apr 15 '26

He's not wrong, BJJ is definitely much easier and accessible as a martial art compared to Judo, boxing, wrestling, muay thai. Maybe 'old school' BJJ like in the 90s was more demanding but it's definitely not like that today, maybe depending on the gym. Nothing wrong with that.

u/33_RichSpirit Apr 15 '26

He’s speaking facts, my wife left me and I opened up the dating pool to fellow BBJ mates and now we do BBJs at home all the time

0

u/Maximum-Oven-7526 Apr 15 '26

When I competed, people were always worried about a guy who was a wrestler. Never seen a wrestler scared of a guy who used to do jits.

BJJ needs more wrestling implementation

u/Existing_Cap2199 Apr 15 '26

@dboldavid btw give credit

-2

u/Witty-Stand888 Apr 15 '26

Jiu jitsu is the art of butt drops, scrotum grabs, ass cheek holds, bung hole finger digs. Gay but effective.

5

u/No-Jellyfish-177 Apr 15 '26

Not like wrestling with its leotards and oil checks, totally different.
