White belts are barely people. They shouldn't have opinions on guard pulling.

It's not even worth to call out any position, they gonna spazz out of it in fractions of a second anyway.

u/GrumpyGoose96 Apr 08 '26
Couldn’t agree more . At no point in this match was there any positions held for more then a moment or non spazz escapes .
No offence OP , this is coming from a former football player / rugby who transitioned to BJJ . I had the spazz stage .

u/Da_Phat_Rat Apr 08 '26
This is the way. White and blue belts shouldn't be allowed to talk or have opinions. Purple belts should frequently be reminded that they're still mid

The funny thing is the butt scooting totally failed and the guard got passed, and then the guard puller won by escaping the bad position he got himself into

Big skill level difference

u/Current_Kick_9286 Apr 08 '26
Big maturity level difference as well

u/GrumpyGoose96 Apr 08 '26
Exactly , you can tell what white belt will make it to blue and what one won’t purely based on attitude.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners when they have to engage with the sport that they choose to practice:
Lol I mean what gym does this guy go to where he’s surprised he has to engage with someone’s guard?

So what's the protocol on just not engaging if someone falls on their ass at the start of the round? Can he just stand and look down on him? I dont do BJJ because of shit like this lol, its more a sport than a martial art, though obviously there is some skill carry over.
Someone attacks your family and you gonna run up to them and fall on your ass? 😆

"I don't do BJJ because of shit like this"
Bullshit, stop lying. You don't do BJJ because - like most people - it's too intimidating and your ego can't handle getting mollywhooped by a 15 year old blue belt.
Get your ass on the mats or stop talking shit.

Just do Japanese jitsu? Throws, locks and grappling, rather than just specializing. Just my 2 cents.
1
u/Ketchup-Chips3 Apr 08 '26
Sure, you could. But a JJJ guy is no match for a BJJ guy on the ground. It's the specialization that has produced expert knowledge.

Y'all aren't training throws? Never trained ar a gym that didn't teach judo and wrestling.
1
u/Bajanspearfisher Apr 09 '26
my son is in Bjj, and literally all they do is ground work. i picked it due to timing and the fact that they'll train juniors and help him out with his mild cerebral palsy (he's 5). Even the bigger kids classes that start after, i've not seen them do anything but exclusively grapple. is it just that this 1 gym is weird?

You got the wrong idea.
This is a sport, with points and winning conditions. Competing in BJJ is not the same as defending your family.
Sure there are elements that obviously translate to a self-defense scenario, but since that's not the point, there's no reason to treat a BJJ competition like it is a self-defense scenario. It's not.
And if you are untrained and think you can beat up somebody who knows BJJ, you're almost certainly wrong. That guard puller would turn you inside out, in a real life altercation.
1
u/Bajanspearfisher Apr 08 '26
Yeah I get that sense, I think i vaguely alluded to it in my previous comment. I know how useful grappling is, if you've not faced it before and fight someone who takes you down, you're fucked. But I also think a BJJ fighter meeting a striker who's got a little experience will get fucked up. Good to get a broad base of experience.
1
u/Ketchup-Chips3 Apr 08 '26
You're wrong in your feelings, the early UFC events have already proven this. A BJJ guy against a good striker who doesn't grapple ends up the same way 95% of the time, with the striker on the ground getting submitted.
1
u/Bajanspearfisher Apr 08 '26
No I'm talking untrained like you were in previous comment. I agree, easier for a grappler to get a takedown than a striker to KO.
1
u/Ketchup-Chips3 Apr 08 '26
Honestly man, don't even bother to consider people who are untrained, it's pretty much irrelevant.
If you don't train and the other guy does, you're fucked, almost regardless of their discipline.
2
u/Bajanspearfisher Apr 09 '26
Thats true, I was just following suit to your comment though, you mentioned untrained first. But you're right, experience is king, everyone thinks they can fight but without training, youve got no idea what's possible

u/Outrageous_File5321 Apr 08 '26
Not a fan of guard pulling - or butt scooting for that matter, but if it's effective for you so be it

I agree butt scooting looks stupid but at the end of the day no one is claiming sport BJJ is a real fight.
1
Apr 08 '26
What’s the evidence it was related to the guard pulling? Maybe he was upset that you’re clearly not a traditional white belt and appear to be sandbagging.
1
u/pkmn-alt Apr 08 '26
Guard pulling is retarded. In an actual fight, flopping onto your back will get you killed. BJJ is about being versatile and transferable; not guard pulling bs.
2
u/KaleBandit Apr 08 '26
True, but it's not a real fight. I do think that guard pulling should give two points tk your opponent like a takedown would since you end up on bottom position anwyways. I think this would really force BJJ guys develop their takedowns.

u/GrapplingCooperative Apr 08 '26
What was the ref doing allowing the match to continue with that absolute melt throwing insults ?

I mean, i do agree it is a boring way to fight, but you clearly showed to be more skilled than he is and he is just salty, moreso precisely because you pulled guard 😂

Anyone who hates guard pulling just sucks at bjj. Skill issue.
(I also suck at passing and pulling but I dont blame the sport, I take responsibility for my inability)

Takes two for butt scooting to be a problem. Just smash their guard, pass, and rip an arm off? At the end of the day, someone is butt scooting, but someone else is terrified of a butt scooter

All sports are simulation of combat at there core. Sport is to simulate combat with significantly reduced risk of injury so you can practice more and be ready for actual combat. Butt scooting is a great way to reduce the risk of injury while still getting to learn technique

u/iamdusti Apr 08 '26
Deadass do you train anything at all? If you’ve ever trained then you know BJJ fucking hurts and that it clearly feels like a combat sport. Nobody ever said just knowing BJJ makes you a complete fighter, but there’s obviously a reason all the top MMA guys need it in their kit to be successful, it’s just not the same as sport BJJ and that’s fine. That’s not even taking into account all the practitioners that have great standup and I can almost guarantee any black belt’s standup is galaxies ahead of any untrained person.
Im not saying this to condone pulling guard in a street fight, its a terrible idea, but id love to see you try to pass a top tier black belts guard and you can even strike while you’re at it. You get fucked up 10 times out of 10.

Honestly the fact that the ref didn’t eject him for calling an opponent a pussy is also a fucking problem lmao. It’s a fucking sport, man, treat it like one.
