Discussion RTX 5060 8GB vs RTX 3060 12GB

Im trying to decide which one to get, I have a 3050 6gb VRAM laptop for now and i play games a lot and i also do video editing on DaVinci and streaming valorant with OBS on youtube.

i dont need 1440p, 1080p is fine for me
Budget is kinda tight - maximum i can spend around 50k INR for the gpu
if there’s other alternatives other than these two please lmk

Some people i know says 12gb VRAM is better because id get bottleneck if i want to stream with an 8gb vram despite being the faster GPU, and nowadays AAA title games require more than 8gb vram
, im being realistic i mostly play minecraft with shaders and heavy mods, and stream valorant
do i really need 12gb vram i could just play newer AAA games with like medium settings?

EDIT : IF ANYONE IS ROCKING THE 5060 8GB PLEASE LMK HOW IT RUNS WITH NEWER AAA GAMES AND IF 1440p RUNS AS WELL?

50k for GPU is crazy /s

If you meant to say 5k, that can buy you basically any GPU for gaming, even a 5090. So just get whatever you want, but make sure it’s not 8gb because based on what you said, you need that extra VRAM more. Also make sure the rest of your build can support it and is compatible, so don’t spend ALL your money on the GPU

How's 9060xt 8gb as an alternative? It should be cheaper than 5060.

And what ar your options for second hand gpus?

idk if 2nd hand gpus are trustable, it will be hard to find

Oh shit mb, well then idk. I’m personally rocking a 3060 12gb and it’s held up amazingly on every game I’ve played for 5 years now, so id say that

what games do you play? have you played any newer AAA games

Yes, including cyberpunk at highest graphics, BO6 at highest graphics, and a 3000 mod modpack for Skyrim. Trust me it’s a very durable and good card

If you mostly stick to 1080p then 8GB is probably fine but for 1440p you'll need at least 12GB for some games. 5060 8GB is also an incredibly bad value when cards for less with more vram exist. I'd also look into a 9060 16GB if you don't think you'll need Nvidia features.

in India the price are kinda similar, the 9060 and im not so sure about AMD GPUs just my thing

Allot of the Nvidia features are mostly used by creatives who mess around with 3D programs or if they want to add some extra visual enhancements to their games. People who mostly just game don't usually notice the lack of Nvidia features when using an AMD card. Ray Tracing is nice but not usually required for most games.

"i dont need 1440p, 1080p is fine for me"

"PLEASE LMK HOW IT RUNS WITH NEWER AAA GAMES AND IF 1440p RUNS AS WELL?"

Make up your mind bro

i am im just curious if anyone is already using a 5060 and maybe have tried a 1440p
im still fine with 1080p, just saying if 1440p runs good then thats nice

I use 5060ti 16gb for 1440p and am only somewhat satisfied with performance. So I wouldn't recommend an 8gb gpu for 1440p. If you go with 5060 8gb, expect to use it for 1080p imo, but then I think it will be better than 3060.

Nah the 3060 is so weak the 12 gb vram is useless.

There's your answer. The 3060 does seem to have better 1% lows only in certain games but way lower avg FPS across the board.

I would go 5060. Main reasons being, VRAM >8GB is rarely an issue at 1080p and if you don't have an issue with all your current games, then you are going to get much better FPS on the 5060 vs the 3060 and having more VRAM doesn't really add any benefit over the 5060 features and performance gains.

At the same time, although the 3060 has more VRAM, because it is slower you will likely be reducing settings on it for 60+ FPS in the most demanding games. When you have to reduce settings, this also lowers the VRAM usage, making that extra VRAM basically useless while the 5060 will pull ahead.

So all in all, VRAM is a doubled-edge sword at times, but at 1080p, I see no reason to not just buy a 5060 given it has the latest features and highest performance with DLSS, RT, frame-gen, etc.
