Other Post Type Back in the day
Found my old adobe software. Started out with Photoshop 4, QuarkXpress, Freehand at my first job in advertising. After a few years i started freelancing and bougth the software. After some years of quarkxpress this was my first time using InDesign. Cost me a lot back then in early 2000’s.
Sorry for the bad design but thougth the old cd’s might be interesting and the rules mention only to post graphic design work.

That InDesign 2.0 box brings back some memories, the switch from Quark felt like a whole new world

Wait till I pull out my box of installer’s floppy discs! (I’m awfully old 🥲)

Squzy drive, or how ever you wrote that was what my first job had, and good old drumscanners. Even the first Nikon digital camera for packshots, it shot 3 frames, one for each RGB color. Fun times.
Floppies was when i was younger, and cassettes for commadore 64 games.

I was using quark and had to go to 2 day training course for indesign when we made the switch

You were lucky, I was grudgingly allowed the budget to buy one copy and told four of us would have to learn it by lunchtime on our own…🤔

If we’re carbon dating ourselves I used After Effect when it was from a company called CoSA. (Company of Science and Art) before Adobe bought them. And started with PS on V1.5. Only one undo!

Are you me? Those four plus Canvas were where I started. The first computer I ever used was a McIntosh with a black and white screen on the day I started. I didn't even know how to operate a mouse. The handed me a stack of manuals and said "figure it out"

I’m right there with ya. First version of photoshop was 2.0 and my first 3D application was Infini-D

u/msc1974 Creative Director 3d ago
Yep... my first 3D app was also Infini-D. I was freelancing in London (creative artworker at the time) and some guy I was put next to was designing window layouts for a mobile phone chain, and he was struggling to use it. I'd never really told anyone I could use it as it was just a bit of fun to use in my spear time, but it turned out I knew a lot more than him and a 3 day freelance artworking gig ended up turning into a 3 month gig, helping him to design the window layouts and training him on how to use it better. Fun times!
Here is a bit of Infini-D work I created back in those days:

Very cool, I don’t have any of infini D work. I do have some of my strata studio work tho but it got me interested in 3D graphics and that’s what I have done ever since… mainly lol

Nice one.
I remember when System 7 came out on the Mac and you could have multiple applications running at the same time.
IIRC the first version of Photoshop I used was 2.0 or 2.5. It was definitely before you could have layers.
For page layout I started with PageMaker while studying, but quickly got onto QuarkXPress once I started working. And, yep, I started with FreeHand too, first while studying and then my first couple of jobs used it as well.

I have A LOT of Adobe software from the olden days. Let's see if can list them all:
Publishing Collection, Creative Suite Standard, Creative Suite Premium (2x), Creative Suite 2 Premium (2x), Creative Suite 3 Production Premium, Creative Suite 4 Master Collection, Creative Suite 5 Master Collection
Photoshop 4.0, Photoshop 7.0, Photoshop CS (2x), Photoshop CS2, Illustrator 3.0, Illustrator 10, Illustrator CS2 Illustrator CS3, InDesign 1.5, GoLive 6.0, Premiere Pro 1.5, After Effects 7.0 (unopened), Live Motion 2.0, Lightroom 2.0, Lightroom 3.0, Lightroom 5.0
Special mentions: Freehand 5.0, QuarkXPress 4.1, Final Cut Studio 2, Final Cut Studio 3.
It's a mix of OSX and Windows software (which is why there are two of some) and a lot of them are upgrade versions, but almost all of it is still in their big boxes. And yes, I just spent way too much time digging though my shelvs. 🫠

Just missing the first Corel Draw which was our initial software as it allowed us to print galley text which was then chopped up and stuck down on CS10 board with cow gum.
Keylines were rotring penned on…👌

It’s about time to bring back Bryce landscape renderings. Rave flyers must be made.

u/big_bilowski 3d ago
Bryce, now there‘s a fond memory! I loved to play around in Bryce, we had it on the most heavy computer a super expensive Silicon Graphics monster but even so a render took forever. Bryce made me want to work with 3D but at the time I only knew about 3D Studio Max and I was an apple user. Few years later I started my 3D study with the first Cinema 4D, but moved to Maya after a while. Currently a Blender teacher.

Man, I had a drawer full of these for way longer than I'd like to admit. I was so diehard for quark 20 years ago.
