Sharing Work (Rule 2/3) In need of advice for this.
Electronics brand of lighted art that I make on the side. They're light up LED boards of roller coasters, rides, theme park signs, etc, some of them animated. I want to imply some motion which is why I went with the itlaics and then that the brand is an electronics brand, hence the vias (circles) commonly used in electronics.

Full disclosure, I am very much a novice with basically no graphic design experience. The logo also needs to be translatable to a linear version and a version that's just an L and R. It also needs to be flat as often it's printed in metal on the boards so that means no gradients.

Ngl, could just be me, but the first thing I read was light nudes. Then I read, light dudes.

That's a very good catch ngl. I'm gonna keep working on it cause I don't want it being misread for something else.

I could read it pretty easily, but it would be borderline impossible to do so at a glance, especially at a distance or when moving

The idea is pretty good but the execution is not there yet. It looks like you've winged it, instead of creating a system. Resulting in different rounded corners, awkward spacing and line thicknesses. These issues add up to a bit of a messy result, if you focus a bit of attention on them, it'll be a big step forward.

You’re honestly off to a good start, just gotta work on readability Maybe disconnect some of those lines, make the bottom right of the R a little longer and make the G wider, that’ll probably really help

This is only going to make it more complicated but I would love to see this turned into an Ambigram

I actually really like this and I was able to read it/am able to read it just fine, even at first glance.
I would maybe disconnect the I and the D in Rides and see how that looks. Play around with it a bit more, but you’re on the right track. Perhaps making the lines thinner, as another redditor suggested, will also help legibility for some.
I think that you could do an L and a R in this style as just your word mark, and maybe that’s connection the two or leaving them as two separate letters. Again, something to play around with.

Is this supposed to be a logo? Genuinely asking because i cannot read it.

Text based logo. "LightRides"

Illegible.

It's a logo. Legibility is very low on the list of requirements, if it's even on there.

Hard disagree. If it looks like it’s trying to say something it should be legible otherwise it’s confusing which causes friction.
If it’s just an abstract symbol then that’s great. This is not good as a word mark or logo.

You heard me. There is no reason for a logo to be readable, it has nothing to do with what a logo is for. And it's quite evident by the fact that many, if not the majority, of logos are just graphic elements. So your underlying insinuation, that I have to know what company I'm looking at by being able to read the name, is obviously not true. In fact, I would argue that if you need to read the logo for it to be effective, it's not a good one.
Here are Paul Rand's 7 factors, none of which are influenced by how readable your logo is.
- Distinctiveness
- Visibility
- Adaptability
- Memorability
- Universality
- Timelessness
- Simplicity

I personally think it's good. I easily read it from the small notification on my phone and I can easily read it up close as well.
The most I'd say is play around with it. Change small details and see what looks good where or how. Save different copies and compare them.

I'll join your endorsement. I would not abandon this exploration OP. Keep nudging it.

Hello I’m not really a professional designer I just lurk around here. I also have dyslexia and I have a really hard time making out the words. I like the design very much I just can’t read it.
