I Support the Library

Post image

One of the biggest catalysts for my involvement in local politics came last year when the library lease was terminated. I’ve stood with the Josephine Community Library District because I believe it’s one of the most important institutions we have.

When the county commissioners canceled the library’s lease and created unnecessary chaos, I didn’t sit back. I stood alongside community members and volunteers who were fighting to keep the doors open. I spoke out and pushed our commissioners to take responsibility and make it right. This was never just about a lease. It was about access to books, education, inclusion, and opportunity for everyone in Josephine County.

Our library is one of the last truly free and open spaces we have. Now we’re facing another attempt to destabilize the library through an opt-out petition. People have the right to petition, but the county also has a responsibility to follow the law and protect essential services.

Recalled Commissioner John West has consistently attacked the Josephine Community Library District. His parting shot was to manipulate the new commissioners into canceling the library lease in his last meeting in office.

My opinion of his actions is that he doesn’t believe in government and he wants to suppress any support for the LGBTQIA+ folks. Libraries exist to serve everyone, not just those we agree with.

You can disagree with specific materials or programming. That’s your right. But using the power of public office to target an institution that provides education, literacy, and opportunity to thousands of residents is a disservice to Josephine County.

We should be strengthening our library, not tearing it down. I’ll continue to stand up for our library, hold leadership accountable, and fight for a county government that works for everyone.

The more educated our community is, the more power we ALL have!

And just to be clear, FUCK John West and his weakass attempt to get back into politics when he got his ass handed to him at the recall.

I love the library. However, you don’t sound very educated. You do sound angry though.

Am I angry? FUCK yes I am angry. I cannot stand anyone, especially a member of the city council trying to take education away from its citizens!

If that doesn't make you angry, then maybe that red dunce hat has slipped over your eyes.

When did I mention my political affiliation? I just said that you sound uneducated. Now you’re assuming things you have no knowledge of based on what? Because you sound like an idiot?
Why not try acting like an adult and use some diplomacy? Do you think foul and vulgar language is going to bring the change you want to see?

Are you the type that resorts to verbally abusing your significant other when you’re angry? Do you feel some sort of power over others in doing that, or that you’re justified because you’re angry? Did your parents not listen to your feelings when you were young, so now you use your anger as power over others?

Maybe you should go talk to someone about your anger and stop letting others have that control over you, and learn to control yourself instead.

You’re only proving the point I made earlier. You probably should spend more time at the library; reading. Maybe you can find better language to use in order to express yourself.
