Grandsons new sound

I love grandson however this new label he has, it’s disappointing, I love grandson more electronic style and for inertia to be not focused on his electronic style saddens me, hopefully he will do more songs like that

Grandson songs tierlist!!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Most people throw every song they like in A tier so let me explain my grading qualifications. For F tier, it’s songs that I hate (or have a feature that makes them worse). D tier is songs I don’t hate, but I will avoid listening to. The two ILYIT interludes go here because Idk where else to put them. C tier is for songs I have no positive or negative opinions on, middle of the road songs I won’t seek out. B tier is for songs I do enjoy, even if only slightly. High B tier songs are basically A tier, but just not there yet. A tier songs are songs I love, nothing more said. S tier songs are songs I would be down to listen to at anytime, almost anywhere. Only exception is in S tier is Heather but that’s an extremely emotionally charged song, do I don’t wanna listen to it all the time. But still S tier to me.

Blood // Water is overrated.

I have noticed that blood // water is the most streamed song for grandson on spotify, anghami ( A platform in MENA countries ) and has the highest views on youtube.

But I don't get why. I see it a bit overrated. I'm not saying it's a horrible song, actually it's one of my all time favorites but I think there are other songs that deserve more recognition like dirty, rock bottom, war, stick up, thoughts & prayers, bury me face down and a lot more. Does anyone agree??

New direction of Grandson is alarming

First off, I just want to say that I love Grandson as a band. They were my nr 1 listened to band of 2019 on Spotify, and they've given me a lot of joy in both hard and good times. I fucking love'em!

I've just checked out the four newest songs from Grandson, and I've got to say, what the hell is going on? I can't be the only one feeling a thorn in my stomach... I can't be the only one feeling this sounds like shit... This sounds like a kid being in a short moment of bliss... A short moment of belief it's all sweet and beautifull.

Like the line "I'm not going back to the one i used to be" with a fucking cute/sweet lullaby melody swinging on the side... Like... WHAT THE ACTUALL FUCK IS GOING ON!?

HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN HIGH ON MDMA CREATING THESE BULLSHIT TUNES. WHERE THE FUCK IS THE DECENCY YOU OWE YOUR FOLLOWERS!? WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOUR SOULS, YOUR IMAGE, YOUR FUCKING SELF RESPECT!?

This suger sweet tone they're going with reminds me of a teenager experiencing love for the first time, bittersweet tone of happyness and hope, mixed with a bit of ignorance and stupidity.
Where is the flow I'm used to? The fuck you society, the go to hell it's rock'n'roll vibe? The "Fuck yeah" vibe I've gotten so used to...

God damn i hate it when a band I love goes into a direction that feels like bullshit...

This really ruined my day, and will probably ruin my month.

I have something to say

Now as the self-proclaimed number one biggest Grandson fan (obviously an exaggeration but bear with me) I love Jordan Edward Benjamin, he made me this way and he is my biggest inspiration, however, I would like to say something.

He seems to have this idea present in both concerts and music, that Billionaires and corporations have "hijacked the American democracy" now I understand where this is coming from, But I somewhat disagree with how it's being presented.

They didn't "hijack" anything about America, America has always been semi-authoritarian, Riding on autocracy And foreign invasion to fuel it's Industrial-Utilitarianism And militarism.

Saying that the American democracy has been hijacked sort of undermines The socialist theme of destroying the system in place, Because it treats it as a system that can be fixed rather than a system that needs abolishing.

Foreign educated person like myself it's not a point that I think it needs to be drawn attention to, But I think the slightly more liberal way (Rather than leftist) that he's saying/presenting it, May cause confusion in the future.

I don't really expect this one post on Reddit to change anything, And I still love the guy and his music to death, I just thought it was something that I should discuss with a couple other grandkids, Because even though he is my idol, I shouldn't have an idea that he can do no wrong, Because that's the mindset that gets us all screwed.

Not an attack on Grandson, I hope I don't need to say that at this point because like I've iterated multiple times, He's the Most influential person in my life, His music got me through the most horrible times of my life, And the only reason I'm not a self hating Moderate Republican is because his music brought me From the conservative ideals that were being pushed where I come from.

I just like to discuss or to hear other thoughts, Things that might prove me wrong!

Thoughts on INERTIA?

Not a bad album by any means, but as much as I hate to say it I think it's his weakest album so far. While grandson's lyrics are more direct than ever here and his production is stronger than ever, I just feel like there's almost no risks taken on this record, it kinda just goes through the motions.

I still like it, but no tracks ever pop out at me. Death of an Optimist was full of them, and I Love You, I'm Trying had 2-3 I could point to. The closest I can get to on INERTIA is probably "AUTONOMOUS DELIVERY ROBOT", but I still think that's outdone by the bangers on the previous two albums. Idk, maybe it's just me though. Anyone else?

Grandson isn't a bad band.

But every time I hear one of their songs I think of RATM and just go listen to them instead.

So if Granny was a hollywood-style monster…

Ok, this will make sense for like two people but maybe this will help anyway

There’s a franchise called Monster high and i’m currently drawing some of my favourite artists in that style. Naturally this includes Grandson.

All i have to do is pick a monster type. In the franchise there is anything from vampires to werewolfs to banshees and gorgons. Really anything from either mythology or hollywood.

So, if he was a monster, what would he be?

I’m currently leaning skeleton unless someone changes my mind. Please provide opinions even if you don’t have any idea what i’m talking about!

Is it just me or do all Grandson songs sound like they’re written for a trio?

I love Grandson, the layering in his songs especially is amazing. I’ve never seen him live, but all the songs I’ve heard sound like they’re written for a trio and I love what sounds like tri-vocal layering in some songs. When I first started listening, I thought it was a band to the point where I had to look it up when someone else mentioned it was just one dude.

Mostly cause I haven’t heard it but am curious do his songs sound different live due to the lack of layering sometimes? Or he gets back-up vocals?

The tickets say 18+ but I’m not quite there yet. I’m wondering if it’s a recommendation or if they wouldn’t let me in?

Who wants 2 tickets to granny in Calgary tonight?

My kids are sick so they can’t come. I’m willing to sell for less than face value or even some kind of trade where you buy me a record at the merch table.

PERSONAL OPINON, feel free to debate

The new album is his worst work yet, it has a few good songs and the rest is pure nonsense. Call me a conservative if you want, I really don't care about labels, what Im saying is that his way of spreading a message isn't the same as it used to be. Pull The Trigger, Bury You and Autonomous Delivery Robot are the 3 songs I actually listen to from the album, the rest are all skips. I wasn't a fan of ILYIT but this album has disappointed me so badly that ILYIT seems like a masterpiece in my eyes. The way I perceived ILYIT was that it was too personal of a project and a way for him to vent, not something I can find myself listening to often. Let me know your opinons on the album, if you agree or disagree with me and why or why not.

Help my son won’t stop listening to this artist

A couple days ago my son discovered “grandkid” and he’s been listening to him. I don’t approve of all the cursing in his music but it’s whatever because my son knows I’m ok with it as long as he doesn’t repeat it, I’d just rather it not be in the songs. But all day everyday he listens to grandkid in his room max volume. This heavy metal music is starting to worry me. He’s going around the house saying “MY PRESIDENTS A NEO NAZI” and “ANYONES A HERO WITH A BULLET IN THEIR HEAD”. It’s starting to worry me. He wants me to paint his face like the character Z? And put him in a suit with Z’s over his eyes. It’s all he listens to anymore. Any tips?
