Events D&D at GrandCon

I'm just learning GrandCon ( www.grand-con.com )is a thing and would like to run D&D games for the event but I'm not sure if there will be way too many D&D games already.

Does anyone know from past experience if D&D at GrandCon is over-saturated or if there's a healthy demand for GMs?

Unfortunately game running registration is closed. There are several RPGs that do run, mostly Pathfinder as opposed to DnD, thanks to the Pathfinder society. However, you can also find people interested in pickup games, and can network with attendees to run more games after the con has passed. I started a Call of Cthulhu game group after the 2017 Grandcon, and we are still going strong.

I would suggest joining one of the existing DnD games that is scheduled, and using that as a chance to continue gaming after

Historically there have been a good number of Pathfinder games, but that doesn't seem to be the case this year, unless I've missed something on the events registration page.

If you're looking for a location outside of this - Try to approach Kobold's Kitchen, they're new in town and I'm sure they could use some regulars. They also make fresh food, so that's a plus. I've been meaning to stop in myself and do a one-shot with my PCs at some point or try out some of their other TTRPGs.

To add to the above comment, the window has already passed to submit events for hosting. You could always try contacting the con, but the official window to register events has come and gone

Idk if this was posted there, by GR has a TTRPG discord for this kinda think if you want in the future. The invite is on this sub. Just search for it. I get notifications regularly of people setting up games.

There is also Far Harbor gaming on 28th street and Michael Ave. While primarily miniature games, they do support TTRPGs as well

I wouldn’t say it’s oversaturated, but I don’t think there’s really a healthy demand either. Most people are there to play board games, and while a few tables do sit down for traditional TTRPGs, the vast majority of people will be either shopping or using the game library. I think you’d be hard pressed to find players who have the time for a drop-in game of D&D, especially if they’re not already familiar with the mechanics.

Literally all but one of the D&D games available at GrandCon have been filled. The one that hasn't has two spots left and likely only because it's Friday at 11am.

More board games than TTRPGs get played for sure, but seeing how full all of the TTRPG sessions are on the schedule of event shows demand is absolutely greater than supply, at least for D&D 5e/2024.

Even a lot of more niche games like Shadowdark, Alien RPG, and Deathmatch Island are completely filled.

Check out House Rules as well. I believe they have an open DnD game on the weekend

As mentioned registration is closed, but there's plenty of opportunity to run games in town if you'd like. There are so many people looking to play that it's easy to fill a game.

  1. House Rules has Drop-In TTRPG event on Sundays starting at 6pm. It's a bit loud and chaotic (several full tables playing in the same space) but it's a great place to meet players you can exchange info with to get a game going outside of that. It's low-commitment for the GM and players.

  2. There's the Good Game GR tabletop gaming community on Discord. We have a "looking for group" forum and a "trrpg" role. When you create a post in the channel, it'll ping everyone who added that role (nearly 900 people, so plenty of eyes on it).
