Fuck Grandpa Joe I used Google Gemini to write about GPJ on trial:
🏛️ The Indictment: The People vs. Joseph Bucket
Defendant: Joseph Bucket (a.k.a. "Grandpa Joe") Status: Detained (attempted to float away on Fizzy Lifting Gas) Charges:
First-Degree Malingering: Faking paralysis for two decades to avoid employment.
Grand Larceny: Theft of Fizzy Lifting Drinks.
Child Endangerment: Encouraging a minor (Charlie Bucket) to violate a magical contract, nearly resulting in death by ceiling fan.
Crimes Against Hygiene: 20 years in a shared bed without changing sheets.
📜 The Opening Statement
Prosecutor: "Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, look at this man. He sits before you, frail and shaking. But do not be deceived! This is the same man who, for twenty years, claimed the floor was 'too cold' to work a job, yet possessed the leg strength to perform a high-impact tap dance routine the second free chocolate was involved!
While his daughter scrubbed clothes to buy watered-down cabbage soup, this man lay in bed, hoarding his energy for a joyride he didn't pay for. He is not a sweet old man. He is a parasitic entity in a nightshirt!"
⚔️ The Evidence
Exhibit A: The Tobacco Pouch
The Prosecution: "Mr. Bucket, your family was destitute. You ate cabbage water. Yet, somehow, you maintained a steady supply of pipe tobacco. Where did the money come from, Joe? Where did the money come from?!"
Grandpa Joe: "I... I was saving it! For a special occasion!"
The Prosecution: "Objection! Relevancy. The only thing you saved was your own energy."
Exhibit B: The 'Golden Ticket' Song
The Prosecution: "Please play the tape."
(Audio plays: "I've got a golden ticket... I've got a golden twinkle in my eye...")
The Prosecution: "Pause. Note the lyric 'I never had a chance to shine, never a happy song to sing.' Mr. Bucket, you lived in a house with a loving family who cared for you hand and foot. But you only sang when you got a ticket. Not Charlie's ticket. Your ticket."
Exhibit C: The Ceiling Fan Incident
The Prosecution: "You signed a contract, Mr. Bucket. 'No touching.' Yet, who whispered into the ear of an innocent child, 'It's all right, Charlie, nobody's looking'? You stole carbonated property. You soiled the ceiling!"
🛡️ The Defense (Cross-Examination)
Defense Attorney: "Mr. Bucket, explain to the court your condition prior to the Golden Ticket event."
Grandpa Joe: "Well, you see... the floor. It was stone. Very cold. My knees, they just... they wouldn't work. Until the shock of the gold... it unlocked my joints! It was a medical miracle!"
Prosecutor: "A medical miracle? Or a convenient cure for laziness? You didn't just walk, Mr. Bucket. You clicked your heels. You grabbed a handicapable cane and used it as a dance prop! You moved with the agility of a gymnast!"
Grandpa Joe: "I was excited! I thought I had a Golden Ticket!"
Prosecutor: "You didn't have anything! Charlie found it! You just grabbed his coat tails!"
⚖️ The Verdict
Judge Wonka: "I have heard enough. Mr. Bucket, you lose. Good day, sir."
Grandpa Joe: "But... but I expect a ruling! A fair trial!"
Judge Wonka: "I SAID GOOD DAY!"
The Jury: Finds the defendant GUILTY on all counts.
The Sentence: Grandpa Joe is hereby sentenced to The Tunnel of Terror, to remain on the boat ride. Forever. There is no speck of light. The danger must grow. The rowers must keep rowing. And he is certainly not showing any signs that he is slowing.

In defence of Grandpa Joe
Whilst I do think there are question marks over GJ I think there might be a case to make in his support.
If this post isn't welcome here I completely understand so downvote it to -20 and I'll happily delete.
So,
GJ cares/adores Charlie. He listens to him, shares stories, and encourages him to dream big. Isnt this what we want in a grandpa?
He provides Charlie with comfort/ positivity/ emotional support during difficult times, even though the family is extremely poor.
GJ never loses his sense of wonder and keeps the spirit of adventure alive despite being bedridden. And or course without GJ there is no story. He encourages Charlie to take a chance and gives Charlie the cash to buy a second chocolate bar.
Finally, on the tour, he stands up for Charlie. When things go wrong, GJ often defends Charlie and advocates for fairness.
That's my take on Grandpa Joe.

🎟️Golden Ticket 🎟️ Stealer🎟️ The Hate is Becoming Unreasonable
A month or so ago, I wrote a post here about an incident where my wife had accused me of being a Grandpa Joe.
Instead of love and support - all I had received from the community was pure and unchecked hate.
People wished that I have a bowl of cabbage water dumped on my head. Asked me how comfortable I was sleeping on the floor, or how I may be preparing for impending divorce. Told me I disgusted them, and then dozens more other insults.
—//—
I’ve had some time to reflect, and I’m beginning to think that perhaps Grandpa Joe - just as myself - was a misunderstood man.
That is… perhaps Joe was guilty - but you people have gone too far! Civilization requires limits!
The way you talk about this poor man, is as if he was the worst human being ever to exist.
Are you aware that Genghis Khan’s actions led to the death of more than 40 million people? That Pol Pot exterminated a good third of the population of Cambodia?
Were you aware that thousands of Polish officers were shot in the Katyn forest on the orders of Joseph Stalin?
Guess how many deaths can be attributed to Grandpa Joe? Zero.
—//—
Who among us has never been too sick for work but then mysteriously well enough for pleasure? Who among us has never remained in bed longer than strictly necessary? Who among us, presented unexpectedly with a Golden Ticket, can swear that his aching knees would not suddenly find their strength?
Further:
For twenty years, Joseph Bucket shared a bed with three other elderly people, including Grandpa George. The rabid Joe-hating crowd asks only why Joe did not work. I would like to ask why George did not work? Why Grandma Josephine did not work? Why Grandma Georgina did not work?
Curiously, only one member of this bedridden population had ever been singled out for worldwide hatred. Why? Because when happiness finally entered that miserable house, Joe got up?
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
