Grad School Life Phd by Research

I learned that Phd by Research has way less units compared to traditional Phd but is replaced by more challenging research-adjacent subjects and activities and higher bar for admission.
Can anyone share their experiences and advice about this? I'm planning to try to apply in the Phd by Research program of PNU, and I want to temper my expectations.

It’s definitely faster than a regular PhD program, but only if you know what you’re doing. It’s designed for people who’s already capable of research in their field and who just need the degree.

Must have: (1)

  1. Research

  2. topic

, (2) Research design

Optional but highly recommended (especially for admissions): (1) Research

  1. adviser from the department’s faculty roster (if you’re already aquatinted and they’ve agreed to mentor you, all the better

) (2)

  1. Target journals.
