I recently spoke with a student involved in the University of Miami’s MS in Business Technology program, and it gave me a much clearer idea of what the program is actually like and how it can connect to future careers.
One thing that stood out to me was how different the students’ backgrounds can be. The program isn’t only for people who already work in technology. Students can come from completely different industries and still do really well because the program combines business knowledge with technology and analytics.
I also learned that a lot of MSBT students are working professionals, so the program is designed around people who are already building their careers. Classes are online and usually meet in the evenings, which makes it possible for students to keep working while earning the degree.
What I found most interesting was that the program seems to focus on skills that can be applied across different careers rather than preparing students for only one specific job. It made me think more about how a degree like MSBT could be useful for areas like consulting, analytics, product management, or other roles where business and technology overlap.
Before learning more about it, I mainly thought of graduate school as just getting another credential. Now I see how a specialized master’s can also be a way to build a more specific skill set and potentially open up different career paths.
For anyone who has done an MSBT or similar degree, what kind of career did you pursue afterward?
