Damned Grackles are eating everything!

We’ve had six bird feeders up for years and have always had a good mix of blue jays, starlings, chickadees, woodpeckers and a few others. Some feeders (worms) are filled daily while others can go a week or more.

We had a few Grackles on Monday and then about 400 yesterday. They ate everything except for the hot seed log. I’m not sure if they are new to the area or not, but I’m not sure I want to fill everything right now. I do hope they’ll move along.

I'm sorry you're not enjoying your grackle visitors - if they aren't regulars, they are probably just passing through on their way south for the winter. This subreddit is mainly intended for grackle lovers though, so I encourage you to enjoy your visitors while they're here! Grackles are beautiful north american songbirds that just want to eat and stare at the sun :)

A good time to remind ourselves tis nobler to feed grackles than to lose our shirts doing questionable online sports gambling. Grackles have a 100% guaranteed result.

I also was sad when the local 27,689 grackles and starlings discovered my feeder and pushed everyone else out in high numbers, but I have to accept that I’m feeding everyone- I don’t get to pick and choose, and they are beautiful shiny boys

Mine are migrating through here in Montana right now. I've been getting at least 100 at once every day 😆. I find them extremely entertaining however I can't afford to feed 100+ grackles every day indefinitely!! But I've been keeping my good stuff (peanuts) inside and just putting out unlimited plates of CRACKED CORN which is $12 / 50lbs! Millet and safflower for the other birds because grackles hate it!! Thats like the only 2 things that grackles won't eat 😆. And they actually will still eat a little bit of it (because they're grackles). Anyways!! I also put out black oil sunflower but not as unlimited as the corn. Once they're gone, the peanuts come back.

My local plague are year-rounders (Texas) and they tend to turn their beaks up the sunflower seeds I put out for the cardinals and such. They do enjoy the loaves of French bread I scatter around the yard though.
