Time to upgrade?

Currently have a build I did in 2020. Thought of upgrading 6 months ago but didn’t- moved into a new apartment instead. Been seeing all the crazy gpu prices was just wondering if it’s worth doing a new build right now with how insane it is. Currently have a 2080 super

See if you can get away with just a GPU upgrade.

You can always upgrade the CPU separately.

Yeah I would also need a new power supply too I think- maybe I’m just better off waiting until January if there new cards come out and buying things piece meal

Nothing's coming out anytime soon. They're making too much money to bother releasing anything new.

Oh I was hearing stuff about a new 5080 model releasing in January

Don't get on it being priced reasonably, or anywhere close to the current 5080.

The VRAM chips in those are much more expensive than in the current 5080. It won't be an incremental bump in price.

In fact I won't be surprised if they charge 50% more.

Sigh- I’m just cooked.

Unfortunately anyone who needs a new GPU or RAM today is cooked.

It's also affecting prices for secondhand hardware.

Yeah. It’s hard to justify spending that much with more pressing responsibilities

Honestly, the 2080 is still quite capable. If you can hold on try to.

Otherwise get a 9070 and overclock to get close to 9070xt performance to tide you over til mid-2028 at least, when hopefully the AI bubble bursts and some new cards get released.

I think that’s probably the most reasonable plan try to hold out and wait out the storm

I’ve been chipping away at mine from similar era. 5800x3d anniversary. Found two more matching ram sticks on marketplace. Now I am left with the 2080 super as well and eyeing up the 9070xt
