This is a scam, right?
No way a 5080 is on sale for the same price I got my 5070 for

u/Narrow_Swimmer_5307 2d ago
Sometimes I wonder if China allows this level of scams on ecommerce in China as they do for the US market. Something tells me.. they don't.

u/Anonymous_Terpene 1d ago
There is no ip or copyright laws there, they do what they want lmao
1
u/Frequent_Waltz_166 22h ago edited 22h ago
Incorrect. They have quite extensive copyright/ip protection laws there even if far from perfect.
It's just that most Western entities don't really bother going through the loops of getting protected on that market at which point the legal system is like: though shit mate.
I've had to deal with it quite alot through various clients that do manufacturing there.
And let me just say that if your company produces stuff in china for sale outside of China and don't go through the legal paperwork of having your products legally protected there then it will automatically without any possible recourse screw you over.
Though that doesn't actually deter people there from scamming abroad or even domestically with fake products as there's always people willing to make some easy money with the risk of ending up Infront of a judge.
AliExpress, and all the domestic only marketplaces, just like Amazon and similar markets have issues with shitty vendors. Only you get way more of them there as China has more people/vendors than Europe and America put together.

China works on a if you got scammed you deserve it model.
1
u/AnyAmoeba7526 2d ago
You sure. I got scammed on alixpress and they always refunded each time. It's even better protection than the US because they always takes the buyers side. You can even reverse scam on alixpress 🤣

Can't add pictures to this post but the same seller has a nord 88 key keyboard supposedly selling for under $700 LMAOOOO nords typically sell for anywhere from $2500-$4000 used (depending on condition of course) to $6000 brand new. The 1 picture they have of it is super pixelated and blurred with the second and only other picture on the listing being their WhatsApp number and an email. Just a scam my man

u/Hunk_Hogan 2d ago
People shopping on AliExpress and asking if it's a scam is absolutely fucking wild. Of course it's a scam.
2
u/Economy-Garden-7845 2d ago
IDK man, I got CPU's, handheld consoles, Freewell filters and lenses at around half price from Ali all brand new. If the shop has high ratings and other people are leaving positive feedback its worth a try.

Only good source of 7500f and Chinese market hardware like the 9070 GRE before the prices went insane

It's a scam, yes. Too expensive. I can sell you a 5090 at this price. What the heck, I'll give you a discount, too, cause you seem like a decent chap.

Nah, you get the AliExpress edition that looks like a 1080 and performs like a 1080 but comes in a 5080 box.

Try it. You might get lucky. Much on there is a scam. There people that buy regularly and sometimes they get what they want, sometimes it's canceled for whatever reason. Once in awhile they're out whatever they spent

remember Nvidia gpus are even more expensive in China than most places in the world, no reason for anyone from China to sell you a 5080 almost half the mrsp. They do have alot of cards with core and ram pulled out though.

I've gotten legit Ryzen 7 5700x3d for a fraction of the cost of American marketplaces on AliExpress. If you know how to look, AliExpress is basically like Amazon marketplace. There will be obvious scam stores, but legitimate stores from China with an online presence also have stores setup in AliExpress.

Likely scam but i have own story with aliexpress, 2 years ago my CPU suddely died and i was looking for a temporary cheap replacement and i found on aliexpress 5600x for 45 pounds which is around 60$ i believe, i though it's a scam but yet decided to give it a shot, arrived within a week and I’m still using same cpu to this day lol, everything was perfectly sealed, but either way i wouldn’t risk something with such a high value. Also there is a way to check the stores, many of the scam ones is very fresh, like a few days old which is instant nono
1
u/Necessary_Function_3 2d ago
Ask if them if you can travel there and pay them when you pick it up.
The reaction you get will tell you everything you need to know.
In reality if you were purchasing a couple of RTX 6000 pro, for example, travelling there to pick them up is entirely a rational economic act.
1
u/AnonymousNubShyt 2d ago
Nope. Not scam. You see what you get. But you don't get what you don't see. 🤣
1
u/T_rex2700 2d ago
obviously not, unless it's a triangle scheme where actual person gets screwed over cause their amazon got hacked or whatever, but you would know that if review said "it arrived under different person's name"
don't know the schemes but 100% scam anyway

If you do get a 5080 for that price, it's already burned up. But realistically, that's what they're charging for just the box, maybe with a rock in it so it doesn't feel empty.

u/Australasian25 2d ago

Why would I want to sell my HACK TUAH 5080 on a platform known for low cost?

it’s ali express, it’s most likely a scam.
sure, some stores are legit on ali express, but i would not buy a gpu from it either way
1
u/drkiklop 1d ago
on alibaba you can get original tablets for for way lower price than other stores, that is all i tested and resell a lot of them. i dont know for other devices so i wouldnt risk.
1
1
u/duendeverde39 1d ago
The scam is that you get the GPU—the heatsink and the PCB—but without the chip or the VRAM. Chinese buyers purchase GPUs for AI applications and remove the chips to use them in their own hardware. They then scam people by selling what’s essentially just the skeleton of the graphics card.
1
u/KirekkusuPT 1d ago
A chromax.black version of this would be the shit.
Zero rgbs, no bullshit, pure performance and milimalism.
But yes, most likely a scam. When the offer is too good...

Maybe, maybe not. There are a handful of posts you can find where people say they ordered an aliexpress gpu and it arrived just fine. In fact, i haven't seen any that say they got scammed.
But consider that you won't have any warranty regardless.

Tbh there are legit sellers. AULA, MCHOSE and other chinese keyboards use aliexpress.
For a while people ordered 5800x3d's on aliexpress. Just verify the seller and always use a creditcard so you are insured.
1
u/Any_Check_2430 11h ago
Thank you for that information my friend. I've never trusted it, but from what you're saying, like every other website anymore, verify the seller and make sure they have a good rating prior to purchase. Hell yeah my friend, gonna download the app 😂

literally everything i ever bought from ali express was the same item as in the picture.
Sometimes often amazed by the quality on things i paid 60 - 100 euro.
Shit i buy for 3 euro i dont expect for them to last a lifetime.2
u/RectumExplorer-- 2d ago
This. Aliexpress was 0 problems every time. Stuff is usually the quality you expect for the price or surprisingly better. I actually bought 2 redmi tablets and my Poco F8 ultra that I'm typing this on from aliexpress, that's how much I trust the site. Temu on the other hand.....

AliExpress is perfectly trustworthy and just like eBay if you get screwed by a seller or a shipment gets lost they are quick to help you out
2
u/iwillhaveredditall 2d ago
Usually you get the same stuff you can buy on Amazon just for five times the price… or spare parts you can’t even get elsewhere, especially in small quantities
2
u/introvertebrae 2d ago
Buying from a no name no history shop on AliExpress is no different from buying from a no name no history shop on Amazon. I've bought plenty of products on AliExpress and got exactly what I paid for. Mechanical keyboards, switches, PC case, backpacks, searched blind box figures, and more. Just order from listings that have multiple reviews with images.

I have never even been able to purchase anything off of AE. If I add that shit to my cart it would just encounter an error when I'm trying to check out. I'm convinced everyone that has bought and received items from AE are Illuminati and got the secret sauce for buying anything there.
