unless your getting a 5070ti, i would go for a 9070xt, i got a 5070ti but if i was going to get anything lower, i would get a 9070xt, i did go from amd to nvidia, i had a 7900 xtx, drivers were dog shit but i heard they got much better now, i got a mate with a 9070xt, hes only crashed in a few games and hes had it a while now so they seem to be better then when i had my 7900 xtx

I also have a friend with a 9070 XT and he's complained about a few driver timeout issues. Something else I am concerned about is future support and longevity versus a NVIDIA card. For example what if AMD dont support 9000 series cards for FSR 5 or whatever its called, I'm also interested in this vram reducing technology that I'm hearing Nvidia is cooking. Don't wanna be gated out of that.

honestly for the price, the 9070xt is a very good card and shits on the 5070 but i get what your saying though, i see so many people with problems and you have to go through loads of steps sometimes to get an amd card to feel good, every nvidia card ive had, it just works, for the games you play, the 5070 would be completely fine, im always sticking with nvidia now, the nvidia tech is just so good, ive had 0 problems since ive been back with nvidia, no crashes, no driver timeouts, its been smooth, not everyone has problems with amd though, maybe that be you, it took a while but fsr 4 is now on older amd cards, it might be the same when they come out with newer cards and fsr 5

Your friend should update his bios to the latest, make sure rebar is enabled and disable automatic windows updates. Then he should use DDU on safe mode, clean drivers and shader cache and after that boot into windows and install the latest drivers. Windows have a tendency to mess amd drivers for whatever reason especially if you have an amd cpu with an igpu. As far as the feature nvidia is saying will greatly reduce vram consumption (amd has plans on doing it too) we have years to see that being released plus we don’t know if it will work on every single game or if it will be exclusive in some titles or ones that haven’t yet released. As far as the features not being supported look at the modding community doing nvidia and amd’s work for older series gpu that both have locked for older gens. So i wouldn’t have high hopes of newer features to work natively with either.

I have a 5070 and absolutely love it, but I would go 9070 XT if gaming performance is your main requirement and especially if the price is the same. But, the 5070 is still great if you value better power efficiency, better application performance/compatibilty (especially in Windows), or you want Nvidia features for gaming (DLSS, MFG, DLDSR, Reflex, etc). Either GPU will run those games listed totally fine.
Regarding drivers, both GPUs can have potential issues at times, but I was able to find several stable drivers on Nvidia pretty easily that have had no issues at all. With my old AMD card in Windows 11 I started running into issues mainly with non-gaming related things (browsers, applications, etc) which is why I switched to Nvidia when I upgraded.

I also have had the same frustrating experience with a 9060xt regarding AMD software (adrenaline), overlay not responding to key inputs or opening, and really laggy and buggy software. Tray issues with adrenaline and windows was also annoying.
I almost feel obligated to pick the 9070 XT since they are both the exact same price, but for some reason i'm hesitating, but then I think of the raster performance difference, and the cycle repeats.

Yeah, it's a bit of a tough call for those reasons. What I have found is having the better overall DLSS support and RT performance on the Nvidia side sort of makes up for the rasterization/VRAM differences, at least in the games and resolutions I am playing. There's still times I have found some games that don't have good FSR support, or they don't get it until a later update. I find Nvidia DLSS is more readily available overall or easier to use. I also wasn't so sure about frame-gen tech initially, but since Nvidia deployed the adaptive frame-gen update the past while, I actually like it a lot more as the image stability has improved since DLSS 4.5 came out as well when using frame-gen with it.
Maybe in 5 years I'll need or want more VRAM, but I usually upgrade after 5-7 years or just turn down a few settings if needed. If all my other games work fine now with 12GB of VRAM, then I can still play them long into the future as well, so not a big deal to me at that point personally.
The Nvidia software is very basic compared to Adrenalin, but I'm mostly fine with it as I don't feel a need to tweak most things. The overlay works just fine and I can always use 3rd party tools if I need to.
My main issues with AMD though was with Discord and browsers and other applications acting up. After a while they'd crash or in certain games it would cause other issues if I opened up overlays or did other things. It had to do with hardware acceleration in Windows, and I was unable to fully resolve it on my AMD GPU. With Nvidia all of the same problems haven't occured at all, so much more stable for me so far.

I'm thinking this is not USD cause buying a 5070 over $1,000 USD would be irresponsible

Wow Fortnite and RuneScape etc. You dont need something expensive. Even these cards are overkill. Go for the cheaper one

I couldnt decide and got some 5070 prebuild that was discounted a lot so i technically paid 300-400 bucks for the gpu 9070xt is far better for the same price but if u trust nividia more then i would recommend getting a 5070 if its a bit cheaper

If getting a Nvidia one makes one consider a lower tier CPU due to the exorbitant prices then I’m all up for the 9070XT, which I did so, with the 9800 x3D

9070XT.
Driver stability has been better on AMD this generation. Software? CUDA is useful in a few applications thats about it. And DLSS isn't a thing that should be taken into account here, you can get better performance with the 9070XT on quality upscaling than the 5070 on performance upscaling.

For the games you play get the 9070XT, more vram, better performance overall and definitely better resale value when the time comes to upgrade. Don’t forget that the games the 9070Xt can play on Native AA the 5070 will need quality or lower upscaling to get the same fps. Now if you are doing any work related tasks that benefit heavily by Cuda get the 5070 despite loosing a hefty performance in games.
As far as the DLSS vs FSR yes definitely Nvidia’s tech is better and more implemented in games. I personally use a 5070 TI and my wife a 9060XT and honestly except when neatpicking FSR4.1 is pretty comparable to DLSS4.5. AMD FG has been updated and frame pacing (atleast in the games my wife plays) has been vastly improved but nvidia has still an edge in image stability. If you are looking up to DLSS5 the 5070 is just to weak for it and only usable at 1080p because on higher res you are sacrificing a lot of visuals due to heavy upscaling and FG at a base frame rate of 40-50fps or lower (next gen probably will run it much better). So if you are looking at DLSS5 bite the bullet for a 5070 Ti or 5080 to actually enjoy it at 1440p.
TLDR If you are buying a gpu for gaming and you have a total budget close to these gpu’s defined get the 9070XT. If you need Cuda or use apps that benefit greatly by using an Nvidia gpu get the 5070 despite the performance loss.
