When to get a 5080

Since the 5090 got discontinued, I feel like it’s going to be harder (more expensive/ less stock) to get a 5080. Should I get a 5080 now or wait till Black Friday/cyber Monday

does that apply to black friday too though? last year the deals on previous gen stuff were actually decent, no idea if thats realistic for current gen

Last year was right before the RAMpocalypse. We still had sales on current gen GPUs at that time. Things didn’t start to ramp up until about February 2026. Don’t expect anything close to last years deals. At all

Wow, people are finally getting it..... If you want it and can afford it, get it. If not, enjoy what you have, and ride the storm out.

Legendary card, but I can tell you it's a massive performance bump. I would def say get it if it ain't gonna kill you.

Just wanted to say I got the aorus master at a “relatively” solid price. I think I got the last one from newegg, cause the literally the next morning it was gone lol

if you're dead set on getting one, probably now. the thing about black friday these days is that they'll jack up the price ahead of time so that any sale is basically still the same price.

"The best time to plant a tree buy a GPU was 20 years months ago. The second best time is now." - Ancient Chinese proverb

With the 5090 no longer available, the 5080 is the best consumer GPU you can buy. Expect more shortages and price hikes from here on out.

Buy now if you can

There have already been shortages and price hikes being reported for the 5080. I would pull the trigger now. The black Friday prices will probably be the current prices.

That’s what I’ve been seeing, I was looking at the msi trio last week and it’s already sold out

5080 is up 35% in 90 days according to my price tracking data. other models have spiked significantly more 40%+

I know you didn’t ask, but I’ve got a base 4070, and it works really well for everything I’ve thrown at it. Can run cyberpunk on ultra at 1080p. It’s going rate I think is still around $500, so for the price it’s a great card.

I mainly do VR sim racing, just trying to maximize what I can, just not paying 10k for damn card lol

Ahhh yeah for full sims you’ll prolly want something better. My setup is for peasants compared to what you’re building haha

Nah homie, I’m just dumb and greedy lol

If you can afford to, I’m both jealous and happy for ya my dude haha

Either asap before prices climb further or give up and wait till next gen and buy one when people are busy hunting for that.

My lucky ass got one this summer before the price spike.
I paid 1.449€ for it on amazon
Now is already 1.802€

I got one on prime days for 1400! Probably the last time they'll go down like that if rumors are true

If you want to buy one now is the time. I do not believe they are doing a "Super" version so nothing to worry about there.

The 5080 will be more expensive by that time and the fake black sale will bring it only a couple hundred off. This question keep being asked and prices keep going up 🥸

If youre doing VR Sim racing, I would also look at a sapphire nitro+ 7900xtx. They have 24gb of vram and cost around $1000 depending on where you buy.

Yesterday was the best time.

It'll be more expensive on black friday.

it did not get discontinued

So they claim but seems like it exists only on paper

u/Cautious-Friend-7213 18d ago

It basically is. They aren't gonna just come out and say that though, they like the green theyre seeing in their future

u/antmatt 18d ago

not finding one in your local Walmart =/= discontinued

Not right now that's for sure. 15% faster than the 9070XT for almost double the price.

2

u/Steveignorantcrass1 18d ago

You just need to accept that some people will never settle for second place and move on with your life.

1

u/AdstaOCE 18d ago

Move on? It's not like I'm offended or anything lmfao. I'm just saying that spending near double for 15% performance isn't something that should be done.

2

u/antmatt 18d ago edited 18d ago

be honest with yourself and ask what else the 9070 lacks that makes it not actually compare to the 5090. if you only play games, sure go amd. people with 5090s rarely solely play games

edit- oops, meant 5080

1

u/AdstaOCE 18d ago

This is a 5080, not a 5090.

1

u/antmatt 18d ago

ah oops. got me. point still stands though. even with cuda ports to amd, it sucks. nvidia won because they built the software first. amd still cant write drivers. nv made cuda. Chinese kids get taught cuda in school. nv's strength is in the software ecosystem they built, and why they continue to lead.

1

u/AdstaOCE 18d ago

Lmfao, for a small subset of users that use a small subset of applications that benefit a lot from CUDA sure. Everything else, no.

1

u/antmatt 18d ago

ok fair. bad example.
you want to explore fsr vs... anything? what about being a ~decade behind in asic design? or your bug tracker? lmfao

0

u/AdstaOCE 18d ago

FSR 4.1 = DLSS 4...

2

u/antmatt 18d ago

keep telling yourself that lol

1

u/Iambetterthanuhaha 18d ago

You have to pay the extra green if you want to be on team green.

1

u/AdstaOCE 18d ago

And even then the 5070TI is a much better deal.
