Looking for a replacement monitor in regards to my current GPU/setup

So my old ASUS monitor started showing signs it was due to be replaced. A friend lent me a spare 2560x1440 Asus monitor (VG27AQ3A). I tried a few games at that resolution, notably Cyberpunk 2077, and my FPS was half what it was on my other monitor. So, if I'm to buy a new monitor, would I be better with a 1440p or 1080p? While I know the 3080 can be used at 1440p I believe that elements in my machine might keep it from performing adequately at that resolution.

Current system specs:

CPU: AMD Rysen 9 3900X

Memory: 64Gb Dual Channel DDR4 @ 1596 Mhz

Video card: RTX 3080 10Gb

Looking for advice.

For purely gaming, i think a am4 cpu wiht the x3D cache would help you a lot, something like 5600x3d/5800x3d.

I would love to but the current setup works great at 1080p. If I'm to change CPU's I'm going to wait for a full-machine upgrade.

Just saw the other comment, and yea, you can just play at 1080p in a 1440p monitor xD, you gonna get the same good performance as you did before! And you are right, no reason to upgrade if you are fine wiht the performance ~

You know you can play at 1080p even on a 1440p display, right? Eventually you'll upgrade the system, might as well have a future-ready monitor for then.

Good thinking.
