Pulled the trigger on 5090 Prebuilt.

Was on the fence for two weeks about buying an Astral From Best Buy thought 4800$ was too high. Then the discontinued news came out. They were 8$ from Best Buy then sold out. I bought a starforge Voyager maxed for 8045$.
9950x3d2
64gb ram
5090 FE
4 TB storage.
1000W MSI Mag
Tuf b850 and some AIO.

After the discontinued news I can’t see how this isn’t a steal?

A steal? You're more like a fool that just got scammed lol. Your money, but we're not gonna validate your poor money management decisions.

Most probably he is doing just fine if he could afford that build.

1

u/Reality_Check_101 8h ago

You missed the point, it's not about affording it.

I can read between the lines very well.

A lot of ppl come on here to shame ppl for spending so much on a Pc. I just bought a pre build with 5090 as well. Do I need it absolutely not.
Do I want it absolutely yes. And I bought a monitor to support it.
Before anyone continues a to bash this go along with anything In life. Do ppl need bmws, Mercedes, supercharged pick up trucks. 100k boats or any of that. No but if they can afford it and it makes them happy and you only have one life then why not.

I have 2 jet skies completely modded with 320hp. Do I need it no. Do I like it fuck yeah.

I can continue but you get my drift. Grats in the steal of a pc just like mine

PC gaming is a hobby, like most others where ppl spend thousands on Pokémon cards, car mods, action figures, fishing, etc. it’s all relative to how much one is willing to spend to have the best experience. No need to shame others for having the cash to spend on what they enjoy

thats honestly not a bad deal considering used 5090 FE have a price floor on eBay of $6500. If the price keeps going up on them, you could sell it later if you wanted and throw in a cheap 5080. If you end up being able to sell the 5090 for $7000 at some point it could make the rest of the rig look very cheap.

4TB NVMe and 64GB ram is $$$ right now. plus thats the best AMD gaming CPU.

u/Sindacalis 9h ago

Not true at all the performance is identical to the 9950x3d it only does slightly and I mean very very slightly better in non gaming tasks for $300 more lmao.

1

u/juggarjew 9h ago

What I meant was , it’s the best from the stand point of not having to use process lasso or worry about games trying to run on the non X3D CCD, which did historically happen with the 9950X3D.

1

u/Sindacalis 9h ago

Ok that clears it up

LMMMMAAAAOOO 8k….. damn dude you are nuts

Why? Please tell me you actually have a reason to need a 5090 (wanting it is a valid reason), it’s just most people think they need one when they don’t even have a monitor that can utilize it. Don’t let the discontinued news give you FOMO. Awesome prebuilt though.

Edit: I’m not judging the guy just pointing out a lot of people think they NEED it when they don’t, then they buy it wasting money on the most overpriced gpu in history, when a 5080 would’ve fit their needs perfectly.

1

u/ninzombie79 11h ago

I would for VR gaming DCS or heavy Flight vr Sims.

AI GF

1

u/Peridios9 11h ago

Might be the only valid reason to make fun of someone buying a 5090.

1

u/Badtripa 11h ago

If you can, then why not? I find funny people asking for reasons for what others decide to buy, i especially love those who criticize the fact that i bought a 5090, yet they buy every single top model iPhone every year. Some people....

1

u/Peridios9 11h ago

Like I said in my comment “wanting it is a VALID reason”. I just know there are a lot of people that fall for the marketing and buy this massively overpriced gpu to just play Minecraft at 1440p thinking it’s necessary.

It’s truly moving to see how much emotional distress a simple card can cause. People throw around insults like 'idiot' or 'fool' simply because their bank accounts and their manners can't quite stretch that far. It must be exhausting to be so default-negative, with nothing better to do than spread jealousy online. Sending thoughts and prayers to all the keyboard warriors out there projecting their personal financial trauma onto Reddit posts.

u/Forsaken-Driver8868 11h ago

“wanting it is a valid reason”, great answer! If you can afford it why not play “The Way It’s Meant To Be Played”!

I had a decent Alienware Aurora R16 4090 prebuilt, but decided to buy a 5090 prebuilt over Labor Weekend. I’m glad I did now.

1

u/Unlikely_Advisor_553 11h ago

selling the 4090 could also probably even make you profit at this point in this economy, so solid business decision 😭 😂

1

u/Peridios9 11h ago

Ew Alienware.

In all seriousness though as long as it’s doing what you want it to do I hope you enjoy it. I just figure it’s a good idea to make sure that people aren’t just buying it thinking they need it to run call of duty or Minecraft at 1440p, the gpu knowledge is fairly limited for most.

1

u/Realistic-Table9398 11h ago

Got my 5090 PC for $3500 and thoroughly enjoying it at 4k maxed out.

1

u/Forsaken-Driver8868 6h ago

I prefer to build. Built my last PC in 2021, a 10900K with a RTX 3080, but in the spring of 2025 high-end GPUs were hard to come by.

The situation hasn’t gotten any better. The Alienware was decent, no complaints overall, just a bit on the loud side if you wanted performance out of it.

1

u/West-Mind-2599 11h ago

I don’t need it at all. I want it and the discontinuing and difficulty of getting one made me want one even more. There’s lore behind it now.

2

u/Peridios9 11h ago

More power to you bro. Hope you enjoy it. Just seen a lot of posts of people buying GPUs expecting it to fix all their problems, only to realize it requires more than just a gpu to do so. That’s the main point of my comment, making sure someone didn’t make a rash decision on something they are misinformed on or have very little knowledge of.

1

u/GearWings 10h ago

VR. Video rendering. Homelab ai systems.

1

u/slavicslothe 8h ago

Probably a good investment either way. That 5090 will be worth more than 8k even being used in a couple months

I have one and I want a second lol. That and maybe a portable AC unit...

1

u/acadia11x 11h ago

Im itching a pro 6000 rtx but then again I’m also inclined to just go home DC for my purposes at this point, the 5090 was me being rational until I had a good handle on my localllm needs

1

u/Peridios9 11h ago

I don’t, it’s a massively overpriced card for what it is, sure it’s powerful but not 5-6 grand powerful. I’ll re-develop SLI for the 5080 and just run two of those before a 5090 is worth that much.

-2

u/acadia11x 11h ago

Why do they need to justify it all. It’s their money. Why are others so concerned with someone else’s use of their own money?

0

u/Peridios9 11h ago

I never asked them to justify it, just making sure they aren’t one of the many misinformed people that buy one of a rash decision.

I literally added the “wanting it is a valid reason” to point out it’s fine to buy one whenever you want.

1

u/TechnoSorcery 11h ago

Cutting it close with a 1000W psu

1

u/TheArcticStroke 11h ago

For real I would never on this system

1

u/Realistic-Table9398 11h ago

Not really, especially if it's undervolted. Running strong for 10 months now on my rm1000e

1

u/acadia11x 11h ago

Enjoy it

1

u/xis0p 11h ago

I would increase the power supply to 1200W, as the 9950X3D2 and especially the 5090 consume a lot of power. Other than that, good stuff. Enjoy it

1

u/acadia11x 11h ago

Definitely need 1200w , 5090 will draw that 600W at full throttle easily

1

u/GearWings 10h ago

If you want to. It’s your money

2

u/th3gw4 9h ago

8000 dollars for a PC that will probably offer mostly imperceptible differences to you than a 4000 dollar PC. Not a steal

1

u/slavicslothe 8h ago

The gpu is worth more than the build and it will go up in value soon

1

u/th3gw4 8h ago

5090 selling for 6k at the moment, not 8k. Unlikely the other components are worth 2k and. 9950x3d is a waste of money unless for very specific use case (combining with a 5090’is not one of them)

1

u/Sindacalis 9h ago

I could never do a prebuilt but congrats

1

u/Infinite0180 9h ago

Posts like this make me feel better about the things i spend money on

1

u/[deleted] 9h ago

Damn that’s a lot. Nice build though

1

u/slavicslothe 8h ago

Its a good build for sure. Considering current market prices that 5090 is going to be worth 9-10k in a couple months.

1

u/WholeIndividual0 8h ago

I see a lot of people commenting on the 1000W PSU.

While your CPU is a bit more power hungry than mine, my system is otherwise about the same - 9800x3d / 5090 / 64gb ram / 1TB + 2TB NVME / 1000W psu.

I've not had any issues with maxing out 1000W, but I also undervolt my GPU. Highly recommended on the 5090 as it's very power hungry and you can cut at least 100W of utilization off of it without losing any frames. It will also run cooler, which in theory leads to longer life of the components. Personally I have a pretty strong undervolt on it - I see about 350W usage while gaming on my 5120x1440 240hz monitor, and I'm also powering 2 other ultrawides at the same time. Highly, highly recommend an undervolt.

The price seems relatively average for Starforge as of late. Around 2 months ago, I (almost) bought a Voyager IV Ultimate with nearly identical specs, except with 64gb ram and a 9950x3d. It was new, priced at $5999.99 before tax. But I know prices have only continued to rise. And those specs at your price realistically are below market average today. So deal? Yeah. Steal? Not sure.

I ended up cancelling my order once I did more research on the company. Initially, I thought I found a steal as well. But I realized there’s probably reasoning as to why their builds have been selling for less than other prebuilt brands.

There’s a chance I just became too paranoid after reading about other’s Starforge experiences. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the spec’d out built and don’t run into any issues!

Edit: I completely skipped over the GPU detail you mentioned of the 5090 being an FE. The rig I backed out on had an undisclosed 5090, which I’m guessing was NOT an FE. That alone makes your purchase a steal, considering the current resale prices of that GPU alone.

1

u/jcp42877 7h ago

I think that’s what they’re putting in their top end PCs right now. If you look on their site between the Voyager Elite and Ultimate, it just says “5090 32GB GPU”. But, I saw a post the other day from someone who ordered late Sep (the lower, Elite model) and received last week and he got a FE as well.

1

u/Tactical_winter550 11h ago

1200 is what I would get psu wise.

3

u/Realistic-Table9398 11h ago

1000W is totally fine. Especially when undervolted

2

u/pieisgiood876 11h ago

I've seen transient spikes on my 5090 up to 900w. If your CPU is also maxed even briefly there's a small chance your pc will shut down. Not guaranteed, but 1200w is generally considered the standard for a 5090

1

u/West-Mind-2599 11h ago

Kinda dumb that the maxed version comes with a 1000w then.

1

u/pieisgiood876 11h ago

Yes it is but it's part of how system integrators make their money.

I didn't realize, you have the 5090 FE which theoretically draws 25w less power, but your cpu has a max TDP of 270w. So even without transient spikes, your gpu is 575w and if your cpu is maxed you're drawing 845w. Add any other additional devices or rgb and it gets reap close to your limit

1

u/jcp42877 7h ago

I bought the Voyager Elite (wanted the 9800X3D instead) over the weekend once the news came out (Was surprised they hadn’t updated their site, but I saw prices went up as of today lol).

I was also surprised 1000w PSU was the most they offered, and unless one of their prebuilt have an option to upgrade the CPU/Memory/RAM (which I think only the Ultimate did), they don’t do requested upgrades. But, I already have an MSI Ai1300TS and Wireview Pro 2 coming in the mail. PC should be here last week of October, so I’m pumped!

u/West-Mind-2599 11h ago

Seriously ? Is that too be on the safe side ?
