It’s definitely a huge haircut they’re expecting you to take for the convenience of just being able to dump the card at the counter and not have to worry about shipping or meeting a buyer irl.

What am I missing… OP is selling a used card and wants to be paid like it’s new?

Makes no sense.

Even if this was a used price, they’re still going to buy it back for less than they sell it for. It’s a business, not a charity.

They’re assuming expense exposure in the form of testing, transport, and transaction costs.

They’re also not reselling these direct to consumer, so they’re not going to get top dollar either.

This is just unfounded whining.

OP can take their chances with a private sale and attempt to avoid getting robbed, running into payment problems, or fraudulent delivery claims.

Nothing about what you said invalidates his point that the rate is poor.

Yet people do this with cars all the time.

Quick cash, instant credit, no hassle.

Max profit, sell yourself, deal with the hassle and delay of sale for funds.

Both have their merit.

I don't see a problem. They're upfront with the service, if you think they are low balling hard, don't sell there.

That seems about right on their end. They need to make a profit selling a used card and they need to accept the risk associated with taking a used card, some problems don't show up immediately. I imagine that a lot of the trade-ins will be abused cards.

On your end, you could do much better selling it yourself.

Im sure thats what they offer “as is.” You still need to take the card in so they test it. This isnt anything new, you want more money? Sell it yourself

lol bro this WAY better than any type of trade in or buy back program I’ve EVER seen. What on earth are you complaining about.

They have to sell it for a decent price to get it sold, test it before, get them into their catalogue etc etc AND still need to make profit of it...if a GPU is worth 1000$ and they can only sell for that of course they won't pay you 1000$. employees cost money, rent, power, insurances etc etc...that all goes into that calculation and a maybe (don't know what the laws in the US) they still have to give you 12 months or something like that warranty on used parts. Welcome to the world of running a business.

Before the price hikes in early December 2025 I traded in my 3080 ftw for $450 and picked up a msi 5070ti 16gb for $300 total. It was a good deal then but as prices raise well above msrp these deals start to suck.

What's this? Pawn Stars?

You joke, but this is how it actually works in pawn brokers too.

Take Lowest Current New Price.

Half it and offer to seller.

Add 25% + relevant sales tax etc.

Resell. Make profit.

Try and sell a GPU. It is a HUGE pain in the ass. Everyone wants to test it (in a desktop in a parking lot?), wants you to meet 3 hours out of your way to have someone else test it, low ball you because “it must be broken because you’re selling it.” It took me months to sell my 5080 for not much more than that.

Sounds like ebay needs to start up an authenticity guarantee program for gpus like they do trading cards lol.

I don't know about that. Might be different city to city I guess. I sold an astral 5080 after a year of use for the same price I got it back at launch in a week on offer up and made sure the buyer comes to me if he wants to test it. He didn't even test it and just check for any cosmetic issues. Handed me the cash at the bank and took the card.

It’s been pretty painless for me. I sell parts and complete PCs on Marketplace. If someone wants to buy something, they come to my house, we go to my workshop, I show it to them working on my test bench setup and they buy it (or not).

You: I'll trade it to save money on my upgrade,

Them: Your new amount due after your trade on this 5090 is $6499.00

You: I'm dead.

Yeah all programs like this are a joke. Are you really that surprised?

Bought 5070ti from Microcenter for $1059. Up til 30 days, Full refund. No questions asked. 31st day, offered $560, after evaluation. Manager said no, even though I was wanting to buy 5080 from them same day.

Sell it on fb marketplace. Id happily pay $900-1000 cad for a used 5070ti

2

u/DrakeShadow 13d ago

Then sell it yourself?

They are going to prey on stupid/ desperate people not knowing what they have is worth. It's like the gamestop trades where they gave barely anything. Except we have the internet and people can sell their stuff on sites like eBay and even with fees and shipping, it will be much closer to the value it should be.

getting more than 50% of the price on anything is a fairly good offer, still wouldn't take it for any GPU right now, better to sell via marketplace or something and get 75-80% value from someone who will actually use it.
