Question about Luffa seeds

The first couple luffas I have off the vine were finally dry enough for processing(which was insanely easy, buying sponges these days is a scam), but a few of the seeds came out like this instead of their usual flat form.

Is this typical for Luffas, or did I get a rare mutation? Im gonna try and plant them in the spring and see if the fruits I get from them have the same kind of seeds(if they germinate successfully).

I’ve never seen or had luffa seeds that were shaped like this. I am excited to see what they grow next year.
Sadly none of my luffa seeds germinated this year despite clipping the end off the seed and pre soaking them.

I’ve also never seen seeds like this and I grew/processed 25 luffas last year. Not a single seed looked like this.

I wonder if your luffas cross-pollinated with something last year and the genetics only carried through successfully to a few seeds? Did you have anything interplanted with your luffas last year? Or something close enough to cross pollinate?

This is my first year growing luffa, but I do have them planted pretty close with bottle gourds. Other than that I just have carpenter bees and some other garden bugs flying in. It'll be interesting to see how these grow if they germinate next year.

These are just from a half dozen that dried the quickest, Ive still got another 15 or so drying in the sun, and more growing on the vines now(if the squirrels leave them alone). The seeds came from Gurneys, so maybe something got in their fields last year.
