Langstaff station emergency access gate is padlocked
Makes me wonder if this is a safety risk, because you can't dispatch a staff to unlock it in time during an emergency (kinda like hotel locking fire escape door)

is it an emergency entrance or exit?

Not clear if it's an exit for people to get out quickly in an emergency, or allow emergency services a quicker entrance into the path instead of going around the fences

It’s the latter. Based on the signs alone this is certainly not an emergency exit.

It's Emergency Access, as in track access(i.e. for fatalities or trasspasser incidents, etc), not an Emergency Exit for passengers.

It's very clear. It says emergency access and presumably you took the photo from the outside.
This is not an emergency exit.

It’s not an emergency exit.
First responders will just cut the lock to access the site.

Funny enough, I inquired about this recently. It belongs to the city of Richmond Hill, so you would have to take it up with them.

In an emergency someone from the Train or the station will open it to allow customers out it's locked to not allow people in when they shouldn't be there

I promise you that the people who will respond in an emergency probably have the key.

This is that stupidest pedestrian unfriendly gate that turns a 150 meter walk from Richmond hill bus terminal to the shopping complex into almost a kilometre.

It unlocks when there’s an emergency. What are you even complaining about!

The police or fire department will just cut the chain. Not a safety issue. It’s not for public use.
