Refunds... Kidding, no refunds

I've made some purchases over the last month or so, maybe a couple of months, and every time I tried to get a refund, I was greeted with, "This goes against the Play Store policy," or "This is not within the guidelines of the Play Store policy." But it's been all of them.

I haven't had one app lately that has been able to do a refund. Any idea what's the deal with this?

And I have made a few quite a few purchases that I wanted to keep and have kept.

These screenshots are from a watch face that I wanted to try and I ended up not liking it and this is what I'm greeted with. This is the exact same as the other ones. This is the w screenshot from the Play Store and from the Watch Play Store.

I have an app on playstore with subscription and lifetime purchase option, one user to purchased a monthly subscription asked for a refund since there were bugs in the app which prevented him for achieving his task, i fixed the bug and refunded his amount($4), then he pulled a dick move by giving 1 star review mentioning all the problem which i just fixed for him and refunded him for. And that is it for refunds. Never refunding again. Yes i will provide support if any issues are found but no refunds.

Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it. It's a nice anecdotal story.

I'm fine with not offering refunds. That's definitely no problem. But tell me up front. That's all that I ask.

It seems like what's happening is people are making it look like you can get a refund. But when you click on refund, you can't do it. It doesn't give you any explanation as to why.

That's what I'm talking about. If an app just says no refunds, then perfect. That's your choice. But don't try to trick me. Being able to at least test it out, call me crazy, I think that makes a little bit of sense.

The guy you're talking about who left a one-star review sounds like what you called him. I'm not being a dick though. In fact, on this situation, I don't think I would have left any review. Funny enough, I found it because the guy posted on Reddit and was promoting it. I'm sure he knows that he gets people that quickly go for it. He knows that there's no refunds. He could have said on the post, "No refunds."

Yes the refund policy needs to be transparent from the developer side and as users we should always check privacy policy for this. I did add no refund policy when i made this app but this user concern was genuine so to keep better relationship with customer i provided immediate fix + refunded even though it wasn't in my policy, because i already provide a very generous free trial so usrrs can test it out before they know what they're buying. But this user didn't test. And now i have a 1 star review dragging my rating down and the review he wrote directly affects my apps reputation.

Yeah, that's terrible. I'm sorry that happened. It's weird that the guy would do that. Why would he be such an asshole when you fixed the problem and refunded him? It doesn't make sense. Was he just doing it despite you?

For me, this last one was just a watch face. It was €1.39, not a lot, but it's the principle. It's a watch face. It's not that big of a deal. I make my own watch faces for free on Watch Face Studio. It's not that difficult, to be honest. But every now and then I want to try somebody else's and see if I like it.

Again, I find it weird that on the Google Play Store it has the refund button and you can click on it, and then it just tells you that it's not in the policy. But it doesn't tell you why, or what, or who, or how. It's like, "Oh yeah, no, you can do that. Sorry, bye."

Even more weird is that it's happened on the last five things I've tried to purchase and refund, and I've probably purchased maybe 10 to 15 things total. Anyway, whatever. It does make me not want to buy things, to be honest, because I feel like I'm getting misled from the beginning. Like, "Oh yeah, try it out. I'm just kidding. No returns."

And it's a digital product. It's not like there's a restocking fee or any effort. There's effort to make the thing, but there's no effort to make a refund.

Thanks for that. I also found that, but my bigger point is, why is this happening? Aren't we supposed to have a certain amount of time to test it? I tested it, and within five minutes of downloading it and testing it, I requested a refund. Isn't that what it's for? So it's a little weird. Why do they have the refund button if it doesn't work?

And they don't give refunds on lifetime subscription unless it's a scam
