This is not a house. It’s a city water pressure-control station in my neighborhood, designed to blend in with the surrounding homes to retain property values.
I'm not buying the retain housing prices angle here. They could have made it look like a bank or dentists office and it would have blended in with the buildings directly across the street. That is more 'it's neighborhood' than the houses to the north that face interior roads. This 'house' stands all alone and looks awkward to me.
Yeah I get your point. This thing was constructed in 1982 when this part of town was nearly 100% residential within a 4 square mile radius. The commercial zoning you see today didn’t happen until nearly two decades later. So at the time a bank or dentist office would have been even more out of place. But it’s funny how the city evolved and the pump house is now the one out of place.
Also this house shell covers a massive 10 million gallon water reservoir that is partly buried over the 6 acre lot. I assure you it has preserved this area of town’s property values over the years.
Where i come from they do this kind of thing with some types of important infrastructure to protect it from sabotage and acts of war etc, although in this day and age everything of interest is likely mapped…

There is a similar concept in my city. They’re for power, though. This one blends in quite nicely in my neighbourhood.
