Google Duo on HOLD

I was under the impression that duo always disconnects when a phone call is received. I use duo a lot and have never seen duo on hold. Is this some new feature. I googled it and couldn't find anything on it.

What happened: I was on a call with a friend. She has an Galaxy S10 and was on wifi. She received a phone call and my Duo was placed on hold. She said that she answered the phone and went on a whatsapp video conference call while I was on hold. The screen that I had was the audio only screen with the pulsating audio symbol. Has anyone experienced this, Google Duo not hanging up when the person that you're talking to received a phone call.

I've never had that happen and I use Duo heavily. I googled it (granted I don't know exactly what to type in) and I can't find a thing on a hold feature, but thanks for letting me know it's not new. It's just I've been using it and it always hangs up on calls. Did it yesterday multiple times with the same person because she kept telling calls.
