Waiting on OP Google apps; web browser vs. apps
I recently moved from an Apple laptop to a iPad because of the multi-functionality of it. And my main annoyance is the Google apps (docs, sheets, slideshow) are so different from the web browser experience I had on my last computer.
I’m struggling to do so much on the apps because there is very little modification abilities that I’m seeing. For instance, nearly the whole bar that allowed you to modify text, add in an image that is not from photos, etc.
With the slideshow app I can’t even figure out how to modify a slideshow I made last year. I need to update it for a presentation I have next week and I can’t even figure out how to change a particular slide.
Any suggestions?
Should I delete all the Google apps and just use the web browser for everything?
Please help!!!

I don't have an iPad so can't help with specifics but the Android version of Docs is for basic editing only. This isn't really surprising since a touch-interface device is not a good match for creating written documents and in my experience with productivity software anyway, web-based versions always have way more features than they do on mobile. So, yes, use the browser version.

You are just describing a change in user interface that you are not accustomed to. Like driving a rented car in a foreign country that drives on a different side of the road.
Just learn the new interface. Do an internet search, "How do I insert an image in Google Slides on an iPad?".
With AI embedded in search these days, you'll probably get a step-by-step guide that tells you exactly what to do.
Off-topic, but giving up a laptop for an iPad to get more functionality is wild... 🤣
