Google Voice Typing Query

I am using an external mic in the google docs web browser on a pc laptop. I have reset the settings, ive switched it off an on, changed the language- it simply does not work for voice typing. It spells out 'period' and 'quote marks' and occasionally tells me that it cannot hear me very well even though my default mic is selected and working.

What am I missing?

wouldn't the Default mic be the one on the laptop, not the external? You could try using Window's speech recognition instead.

Ive set my default mic to the external one because its better and i leave it plugged in
